And this is why whether you consider yourself a liberal, a conservative, a democratic or a republican or anything else or none of the above, you should judge each candidate as a individual. Party labels are largely meaningless at the CB and SB level. The real question is, which special interest group, if any, has captured this politician and will they do that interests bidding or act independently for the good of the county. What ambitions does the candidate have? Is it just personal self esteem? Higher office? These are way more meaningful than some party label, and that's why JV wins.

Well, Ferranti had to reach outside of Arlington for fundraising. What does that say?

There's no real choice this year. BK will win in a landslide. Clement has been trying to get a seat on any board (SB, CB) for years. Did you see the end of this article? All of her funding in the last month, save $100, came from...herself.

If you want to compare the motives of JV vs MDF, just check out their Twitter feeds.

@voteforvihstadt shows JV doing what he does literally every weekend (even when he isn't running for re-election)… going door to door, talking to Arlingtonians. As an independent, he has no aspirations (or hope) for higher political office. He's running for County Board because after years of being a civic leader, he is genuinely concerned about some of the stupid decisions we are making.

Compare to @matt4arlington which is basically just a stream of pictures of Matt hobnobbing with other D politicians.

Re-electing JV is a no brainer. Unfortunately, that ACDC sample ballot is going to be hard to overcome when all the millennials turn out to vote for Kaine and blindly follow the sample ballot on local issues.

I'm voting for Clement. Yeah, she'd be scary entertaining; but the closer she comes against the incumbent, the stronger the message to and more nervous the incumbents become. Clement won't do much damage in 4 years if she actually were to win - and she'd be easily ousted upon re-election bid.
