I also think that babies and children see things that we as adults do not.
When DD was two she and I were playing in her room. She suddenly jumped up and launched herself into my arms and buried her face in my neck. I could tell she was scared but had no idea why, there hadn’t been any loud noises or anything. I asked what was wrong, why she was scared and she looked up into the corner of her room and said “people!” Scared the crap out of me!! I didn’t want to scare her anymore so I just said “you’re scaring the baby”. A minute later DD looked straight at her bedroom door and said “bye bye” and went back to playing. I grabbed the diaper bag and got out of the house! Still weirdos me out. |
+1 I’m a grown a$$ adult reading this in bed. After page two I pulled my feet back under the covers because everyone knows the covers will protect you! ![]() |
Lol! |
I love this thread. |
To those on here who have actually personsally seen ghosts -- What do they look like? Do they look like solid, regular people, or are they misty or transparent? Are they "in color," or one color? |
And do they walk or glide? Disappear and reappear all at once, or fade gradually? |
OP, the answer is obvious. Your 7 year old saw the Wizard of Oz and learned about the tin man, and rust and it terrified him. He is very imaginative and made up some kind of story about the Tin Man living in a closet and shared that story at some point with your 3 year old, who is also very imaginative. The whole "there's a monster in my bed, if I stay under the covers he won't get me" is primal. Ask your 7 year old what kind of stories he's been sharing. When I was 7 and my brother was 4 I told him about he marshmallow monster. |
The ones I’ve seen were standing still but I couldn’t see their faces. I remember the first time I saw the ghost in my dorm she was wearing short terry cloth shorts popular in the 70s and lying on my roommates bed. |
Because he is an asshole. Earthbound spirits (ghosts) are just people who have died. Just like in our reality, there are good people and sketchy people. When a person dies, they almost always cross into what we often call "the light". The ones who don't usually fall into one of three categories, in my experience. (1) They are genuinely lost. This can happen after a sudden, unexpected death. It usually doesn't last long. (2) They were not very good people when they were alive and they fear judgment. They believe they will be punished. Or (3) They are still attached to something here on earth. Usually these are people who lived shady lives and are still attracted to it. Drug users, gamblers, .... We still have free will after we die. People have to choose to cross over. Most of the ones who won't are not the kind of people you want around. Talking to deceased loved ones is totally different. These spirits have crossed over. Many are able to "meet us in the middle" for lack of better term. Totally different from communicating with earth bound ghosts. You can tell the difference by how they feel, if that makes sense. The spirit messing with the OP's child is doing it because he can. He knows the child can see him. He knows she is scared. He is just an asshole. The same way he was when he was alive. He needs to go. |
Geez - stop writing it on a public website & start creating the movie script. What is wrong with you?? |
This. Kids pick up TONS of things from the people around them without us even realizing it. It's what they are programmed to do. Adults have learned to tune things out, kids haven't. For example, when we go outside, my kid hears dogs barking from blocks away. I've completely tuned it out until she mentions it, then yea, I hear the dog, too. They just overhear things that we don't and repeat it later on. We just freak out when one of those things is creepy or coincidental in some way. Add in the very primal fear of sleeping alone and imaginations run wild. When my husband is out of town, I also "see" things. It's not spirits or demons or whatever, it's that I'm more afraid and amped up, so my brain perceives there is more potential for danger and starts looking for danger in everything as a protective mechanism. |
This is the most fascinating DCUM thread I've ever read.
I was down in some old tunnels in Scotland once that were said to be haunted. At one point I was standing off to the side and no one was around me and I very clearly heard someone whispering in my ear that it was time to go. Then I felt like something passed through me, which is the only way I can think to explain it. It wasn't the same as your blood turning cold when you speed past a cop or anything, it felt totally different from anything I've ever experienced. I also pulled my camera out at one point and the digital screen showed a ton of icons that had never been on there before and were never on there again. And when I got back there were several pictures of mostly black space that I did not take. That's the only time I've ever felt connected to anything in the spirit world and it freaked me out, although I do love horror movies. OP, I told my younger brother once that if he ate apple seeds he would turn into an apple. One time I saved an apple stem and told him I saw something in his hair, rooted around, and told him there was a stem and asked him if he wanted me to pull it out. He of course said yes and I made a popping sound and showed him the stem. He was beyond terrified. I told him I wouldn't tell our parents that he had eaten an apple seed and it was a good thing I had been there to save him. Months later he was eating an apple when I wasn't there and said something to my mom and making sure there weren't any seeds or he'd turn into an apple. If he hadn't said anything my parents wouldn't have known what I told him. (Of course, I got into trouble). I'm not discounting that your daughter could be seeing something, but it does sound like her older brother could have very likely said something to hear that you didn't hear. |
I would gently encourage it! My parents knew that I could see spirits as a young child and it terrified them. I was able to accurately share stories of a grandfather who died well before my birth, for example. My parents are very much evangelical Christians. They believed me because they couldn't NOT believe me given the information I was able to share. But they thought it was evil. They still do. There are stories all over the Bible of people seeing and interacting with ghosts and spirits. I'm not sure why they believe suddenly it's evil. But it scares them to death. My grandmother however, encouraged it. She is the reason I am still able to connect. A little advice - Spirits should never be scary. Do some research about setting good spiritual boundaries if you decide you want to be open to communication. I don't even want my deceased loved ones waking me up in the middle of the night. And they know that. When I work as a medium, I have office hours. I really don't like it when spirits just pop up in my environment unless it's truly urgent. When they do, I lovingly ask them to step back. The way your body feels is the best indicator of what type of spirit you are dealing with. It's ok to be startled by something that appears. Everyone is. But if the energy feels dense, heavy, dark, scary, etc. Don't interact with it. Loved ones feel light, airy, happy, warm, loving, bright, .... I get goosebumps when a loving spirit is near, but not scary goosebumps. I also often get very warm. It's a good feeling, not a bad one. |
I agree with you, PP! I was telling my young teen who is a huge fan of suspense/lite horror (ie. Stranger Things/Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar children) about this thread. She was so eager to know more -- the PP medium is providing such awesome information and perspective! |
