The enrollments at both McLean HS and Marshall HS are the highest they’ve been in at least 25 years.

Have you seen how OLD some of the parents is kids in McLean are? Can't tell of it's mom and dad or grandma and grandpa.

Parents are older because they build some wealth before popping out kiddies, so they can afford McLean. That's the way to do it. No teen moms up in here.

I am youngish (35 with two kids) and bought 2m home in McLean.

You are in debt and living large, we know you. At least you had the good sense to live in Mclean instead of Great Falls.

You are not youngish.

No you didn’t.

Actually, yes I did. I have very good reading retention. It's a quote from Tom Sietsema. Do you know who he is?

Sorry, a food critics comment (and attempt to be funny) doesn't = reality. You can't cite blogs/restaurant reviews as fact-based reporting anymore than you can cite a thread on DCUM.

Yes, I know him. I actually worked in management for the Post, pre and post acquisition by Bezos, at the 15th street office and Frankling Square office. And I agree with PP that citing one of Tom's reviews for such a comment is silly.

If a food critic like Tom Sietsema doesn't know what is going on in the restaurant biz around the DMV, I don't know who does. Sheesh!

Yes, he knows restaurants (and I like his work) but he isn't an expert on city demographics/household dining stats beyond the obvious (i.e. McLean has a lot of wealthy people). Tom will openly admit this.

And will probably save enough to buy a second home in a few years while the plebs in Arlington spend $10K/year on nachos.

So now we’re citing Tom Sietsema as a source for McLean demographics. No, seriously?
Are you the same pp complaining about old parents on McLean?
Or the 35 yr old bragging that you paid cash for a $3M house?
Did your grandparents make you all wear matching stratchy outfits for the annual Easter picture?

+1. I just started reading DCUM last year because we were looking four our home in McLean. Even though we bought 6 months ago I can't stop reading DCUM because its hilarious to see what people say - there's a whole lot of crazy on DCUM

This one’s too good. Here’s the food critic’s quote: “The joke that explains the problem [that McLean ‘doesn’t have many high-quality restaurants going for it’]: Too many personal chefs.”
Ba dum tsss.

This is the thread to read for anyone thinking of moving here who wants to get a feel for the personality of the area.

Grim, self-important, status-striving sneerers who'll argue the tiniest point to the death will be your neighbors, and they're completely typical.
Anonymous
I don't know about the personal chef part, but I will say that a lot of folks in McLean are heavily into the meal kit services like Hello Fresh, Plated, and Blue Apron.

When you buy a house with a nice, large kitchen, you do feel like you ought to use it at least occasionally.
Anonymous
Is someone trying to argue that McLean DOES have a good amount of high-quality restaurants? Hahaha.

It doesn't even have a decent grocery store. McLean is not for foodies.
