Most expensive homes - check

Not per square foot. I guess those many Safeways in McLean sell apples, but perhaps they could better explain "apples to apples".

Buyers and realtors pay more attention to total price than price per square foot. You may be drinking too much acid-spiked acai.

Of course. Buyers worry about what they can afford, and realtors about their commissions. But in terms of determining which area is more desired, I would think an apples to apples comparison would make more sense.

I think PP explained it to you, moron. Comparisons of single-family homes in different locations to one another are apples-to-apples comparisons.

I would think they need to be roughly the same size. Larger houses sell for more money, all other things being equal.

By the way, calling names does not really add anything of value to your point. Most of the people I know from McLean to not speak that way. Do you really live in McLean?

+1

HAHAHAHA. No.

It doesn't even have a decent grocery store. McLean is not for foodies.

McLean has an enormous Giant, one of the three Balducci's in the DC region, several Safeways, a Harris Teeter, and a Wegmans scheduled to open in Tysons/McLean in two years. There are Whole Foods in the adjacent towns (Falls Church and Vienna) and a Trader Joe's in Falls Church as well.

Exactly. No good grocery stores. Gourmet Giant was good back in the day. But nothing now.

There are plenty of good grocery and restaurant options in McLean. You must be very bored.

All three cited to the cost of doing business in McLean. The owners said the rent was too high.

SO typical for this area! Fairfax County keeps raising taxes and rents to pay for other programs, and is running people out of town.

The county does not set rents, those are negotiated between private owners of buildings and the businesses that rent from them.

It is true that Fairfax has higher property taxes than Arlington or Alexandria, but both Arlington and Alexandria have meals taxes, and Fairfax does not (one was proposed, but defeated), and you would expect that to matter more to restaurants.

I don't think the county leased the space.

Are you going to post the list that has Subway, etc. again?

There are some decent options if you are stuck in McLean (AKA Cava), but there really aren't any restaurants that are good enough to draw people in from other areas. It's just not a foodie place. That's fine. Plenty of other nice things about McLean, but great food is not one of them.

There are plenty of people from outside McLean who will make a special trip to restaurants like Kazan's, J. Gilbert's, Tachibana, and Esaan. Whether they are your personal favorites, or McLean rises to the level of a "foodie place" (said no one ever) is not especially relevant.

That's true, those are all good. There are some other good restaurants in Tysons. Otherwise our personal chefs cook the way we like. No one goes hungry in Mclean, no worries.

Tachibana is legit. My live-in-Japan in-laws consider it “home cooking” (in a good way).

Viewing this thread with amusement. I will say though, I drive 35min at least 1x a month for Kazan and Tachibana. I think Tachibana has the best sushi in the DC region. I also stumbled on Del Grano and almost died from a foodgasam.

^^ oh and J Gilbert's suck. Truly awful. That's some old people food.

I do like Tachibana but I wouldn’t drive out for it. The whole point was that there are NOT a good amount of high-quality restaurants. Or grocery stores. It’s a bit surprising because it’s an otherwise nice area.

Another PP called it a food desert. Spot on. It’s not the end of the world but don’t try to pretend like it’s not true. And don’t worry - I’m sure more restaurants will move in as the average age decreases.

It's neither a restaurant nor a grocery "desert," as PPs have pointed out.

And, I wouldn't hold my breath expecting the average age in McLean to decrease, unless you include people moving into new apartment buildings in Tysons/McLean. The single-family neighborhoods in McLean just keep getting more expensive and it takes time to save enough money to buy into them.
