Actually your comparisons are laughable. It's not really the phone itself - it's social media and apps/games yes, they can be compared to the rise of tv, rock music, etc. When I was a teen, it was heavy metal music that was going to do us all in. What you listed are actually true health and safety issues that can cause serious medical injuries or death. |

I admit I haven't read the entire thread, but here's my 2 cents. My 12-year-old relative, a sixth-grader at an MCPS middle school, has an iPhone. She says one of her teaches puts a presentation up on the board and expects the kids to take pictures of it. With their phones. So, if you don't have a smartphone, well, it sucks to be you.
I have no reason not to believe the girl, but I do find this whole situation sort of dumbfounding. My child is 9 and I have no plans to give her a smartphone anytime soon. |
I would raise total hell over that. NFW. |
Teacher here. Yeah, that’s not appropriate. I would go to administration. |
The PP is saying kids and adults always know where a landline is in the heat of the moment and the 911 operator always knows the exact location. Also in major disasters locally or nationally, cell service doesn’t work. Finding a cell phone in a house can be tough sometimes, especially for young kids, or for us, even grandparents. Only 1 of 4 of our parents have a cell and they visit and babysit a lot. So I would also never get rid of our house phone. |
Never ever. Go immediately to principal. |
I am an ICU nurse and anyone can call the main desk and ask for a visitor to speak with. Happens all the time. You can even have a direct number by the bedside. So that makes no sense. Your replies are strange. You seem to be backtracking from saying your child doesn’t know how to walk in a house without a parent and whether to use his key to turning this into a one time situation. Also, most terminal cancer patients aren’t in ICU. They are in hospice or a meg/surg floor. |

NP, I always thought principal and administration were the same thing? |
