Holy crap, you spent $2500/month on groceries at Costco? I love Costco but that is a lot.

It depends on what you buy there. I spend about the same amount for a family of six, shop there 4 times a week, according to the wife:

$100 of avocado, 2 avocados/person a day = 84 avocados
$80 of strawberries, bananas, blueberries, apple, oranges, mangos, brocolli, cauliflower, green beans, asparagus
$150 of salmon
$80 of shrimp
$120 of lobsters or crab legs, depend on the week
$100 of chicken
$40 of milk
$60 of oats, sunflower seeds, chia seeds, pumpkin seeds
$80 of organic coconut water

yes, they add up.

2 avocados a day/per person is a lot!

yes, living an active and healthy lifestyle is not cheap

Are you joking? $30 of organic chicken lasts several weeks for our family of four (individual packages frozen). How on earth can you possibly spend $2500 a month?

Waiting a half-hour in line to save 5 cents per a gallon on gas is not worth it.

More like 30 cents. Adds up if you need premium and/or have a huge tank.

2 avocados a day does not seem healthy.

This -- Gas is 20 to 30 cents cheaper than anywhere else. It adds uo.

Yeah it’s like 60g fat for 2 avocados! I know it’s “good” fat, but everything in moderation, right?!

No - you have to go to DC or Va for alcohol.

The pentagon city Costco is incredibly huge if you ever want to go on a wine run. They have their own chocolate factory where they make things like chocolate pentagons or turkeys or Easter eggs and they make gelato at the snack bar. It’s got to be one of their biggest stores it’s incredible.

I had no idea! The trip might be worth it.

2 avocados a day is perfect for an athlete working out 2 hours everyday, on top of other fruit and vegetables and a healthy diet. I am 30 years old and I've been eating 2 avocados since I was 14 years old as a swimmer. I still swim an hour in the morning and another hour in the evening. Avocado is the best nutrient food, lot of good fat and fiber. If you can afford it, goes for it.

I recently shopped around for a car battery, most of the Auto Zone type places were quoting north of $150. I got mine at Costco for $132.

We don't have a ton of storage space, but my great tip... you can shop Costco on Instacart without a membership AND then you don't have to deal with driving there, parking and waiting in line to pay. Instacart doesn't offer EVERYTHING they have in stock, and you're paying higher prices, but to me it's worth it to stock up a few times a year.

I think it's definitely worth it in DC where groceries are so expensive at Safeway, Giant, etc. Now that I am back in the midwest, I find myself just going to the local grocery store a lot more for the variety and ease. Groceries are so much cheaper here. The only good prices at Giant or Safeway are the items that happen to be on sale that week. And then you go to the store and the shelves are empty.

Definitely worth it for our family, though it helps that we live within 2 miles of one. I don't go out of my way to get gas there, but it's a nice perk if I happen to be going there and need a fill up.

I got dressed yesterday and realized that literally every article of clothing on my body was from Costco (except my shirt): socks, underwear, bra, pants, sweater, and puffy coat.

Our house budget for Costco is $300 a month, so I try to stick with that. But the cheese is way cheaper there than Harris Teeter, but I found the organic chicken at Trader Joe's to be cheaper. We also get the 24-packs of La Croix there for $7.50. I also just picked up a zillion-pack of coffee filters for $2.99, which will last me a good 2 years. Enormous packs of string cheese, which my DH and kids can go through in a week or two, are also essentials.

Love Costco!
