That’s true but they don’t have the same output but places like Goodwill literally pay them 14 cents per hour and require them to be there 40 hours a week to stay in the ‘special program’. Be grateful this isn’t your life. |
Social security for the disabled is nothing - it’s $430/month or so. That pays for everything else you might need - clothes, dental care (not covered by Medicaid) , shoes, entertainment, transportation, trips, food beyond the tiny food stamp allowance(not enough to feed a person). They are exempt from minimum wage so I’m not sure what you are talking about. Also, if you receive SSI you can only receive something like $80 (on top of your $450) in work wages, so none of the minimum wage issues apply to them at all. |
But McDonald's started installing the kiosks before the $15/hr was a thing. Corporations are going the way of AI anyway -- a minimum wage hike isn't the reason they are doing it. Corps are always looking for ways to save money and increase profit. |

All of this low pay has consequences that we pay for as well.
People live far away because that’s all they can afford so now we have crazy clogged roads and that we need to spend a zillion dollars fixing. People who will lose their homes aren’t happy and the new toll roads will cost money. We also end up subsidizing food (food stamps) , health care and other services for the ‘working poor’ . You’re paying for it already whether you know it or not. |
What? That's pretty offensive. Best babysitters I had were boys -- the teen girls mostly talked on the phone and ignored us. The one actually engaged with us (e.g., played games, read to us) as opposed to his older sisters. |
I echo that. The girls would yap on the phone all night, ignoring us. The boys sat with us in the family room, watching the kiddie shows. |
