| What percentage of the applicant pool are blacks and Hispanics? |
Low percentage of applicants. The numbers are here: https://www.fcps.edu/news/fcps-offers-admission-tjhsst-490-students White: 26.3% Black: 6.2% Hispanic: 7.6% Asian: 54.9% Other/mix: 5.0% However they are also admitted at a much lower rate than white and asians. |
| The admit rate Asians is twice that of whites. All non-Asians need to get off the sports fields and get to Sunshine school if we want to increase our chances! |
Do you have any statistics as how many Sunshine Academy student makes it to TJ? These are american kids admitted to American school, why bring race in to the picture? |
Troll post. How does this helps anyone? |
Number of american kids admitted to AAP = 100% |
Go to their website. TJ admissions seems to be their main focus and they advertise as such. |
Its easier to pull down, than push up. Instead of sunshine, why not entice your kid's asian friends to nice game of tackle football? Tell them how great they are, and with just a little extra work they could be in the nfl. Figure out who to target by seeing if they know what Sunshine and Kumon are... |
Asians don’t complain about being discriminated against in the nfl. |
There is no guarantee that just by attending Sunshine academy or any other coaching classes will ensure guaranteed admission to TJ! Above average intelligence is needed in this case so it is not everyone's cup of tea. Same is for the sports, not everyone is top athlete very few makes it to the top. in either case, one need exceptional talent/skills. |
Actually, you don't have to be a US citizen to be admitted to AAP. Public schools are open to all children, regardless of citizenship status. |
| There are obviously a lot of institutionalized practices that disadvantage blacks and Hispanics in FCPS. One Fairfax means TJHSST needs to be revamped completely or closed. Equity does not mean only helping Asians. |
TJ has been revamped. But changes really need to be aimed more at the lower grades, and given time to work, before talking about closing TJ. Is that really what disadvantaged blacks and Hispanics want? To close TJ? I thought that's what whites who didn't get in want. |
So the solution is to close one of the best high schools in America because not enough blacks and Hispanics are admitted? That makes no sense. |
I apologise for my comment. It was snarky but not intended to be racist or anti immigrant. Someone said that if blacks and Hispanics studied more, they would get in. I looked at the numbers and saw that Asians get in at a much higher rate than the rest. Perhaps in order to increase our chances we should be doing what some in the Asian demographic are doing instead of whining about not getting in. |
