This entire statement from Ash Carter is worth reading, but within it is the following quote from US Army Chief of Staff Mark Milley:

Army Chief-of-Staff General Milley recently reminded us of this when he said, and I quote him, "The United States Army is open to all Americans who meet the standard, regardless of who they are. Embedded within our Constitution is that very principle, that all Americans are free and equal. And we, as an Army, are sworn to protect and defend that very principle. And we are sworn to even die for that principle. So, if we in uniform are willing to die for that principle, then we in uniform should be willing to live by that principle." That's General Milley.

It says nothing about having to pay for transgender surgery. How about we exclude that from military benefits and welcome transgender people with open arms?

I suspect a lot of people were enlisting in the hopes of having DOD pay for the transition. There have always been people who enlisted for medical care. Years ago, I knew someone who enlisted because his wife had cancer. Very sad. She was young. He did stay in after she passed and was an asset to the service. I also have known of others who did this. The data would be difficult to find, but I personally know of several who stayed in because of medical issues in their families.

Let's not equate cancer to choosing transgender surgery.

I say let's simply not pay for transgender surgeries but welcome transgender people with open arms

That isn't what the President is proposing. He is willfully removing thousands of active patriots (something he never did) from service. It has nothing to do with surgeries and everything to do with hate and fear-mongering.

That's really interesting. Did you know the military spends 10x as much money on Viagra through benefits than it does on anything related to transgender members?
