I hope you don't hire people who are smokers, who curse, who sleep around, who chew with their mouths open, etc. All THOSE things show a lack of self-respect as well.

I am overweight mostly because I work too much. I have a limited amount of self discipline and most of it goes to my job.
if you work so much, where do you find time to eat? When I'm very busy at work, I barely have time to eat a yogurt for lunch at 3 pm at my desk.

Almost everyone who is obese is that way due to lifestyle choices and / or psychological issues.

A few are obese due to side effects of a medication or due to an underlying medical condition that directly causes weight gain. There are almost no illness that have obesity as a symptom, although some have low energy / low motivation and that can indirectly lead to weight gain,

I gained 50 lbs due to chronic illness and a move to a desk job. However I am not working it off through conscious choice and decision making and living a different lifestyle.

Not that PP but my employer (big law) has free snacks (granola bars, almond packs, pop chips, pirates booty, peanut butter crackers, party mix, snack mix, etc.) on every floor and often orders in.

My employer also has plenty of free snacks and soda, yet my regular lunch is still a yogurt or salad. I normally am so busy that I have no time to snack.

I'm pretty sure my boss hired me in part because I am morbidly obese. It's a mirror mirror on the wall situation. She cannot tolerate any attractive females in her orbit, and it's only getting worse as she's about to turn 50.

Almonds are an easy way to blow past daily calorie goals.

She is constantly calling in sick, in and out of doctor's appointments and overall can't do her job because of her health. It makes me sad that she is otherwise a great employee, but being out 30% of the time is a huge roadblock.

Many times, the health problem precedes the weight problem. Sick or injured people cant exercise and may be more likely to comfort themselves with food.

This whole thing is ridiculous. Thin people can and do have just as many health problems. They're just not as visible. And they're not necessarily all psychologically sounds just because they're not overweight.

My biggest problem with the people are saying they wouldn't hire a morbidly obese person is that they have no intellectual, logical, or critical thinking. They're perfectly happy to indulge in their biases instead of using their brains.

I would be more embarrassed about that than being a fat hater

^oh and I can't prove it because internet, but I'm not fat. But I'm sure there are people out there saying in their heads, " so says the fatty." Idiots

You clearly have more self-disclipine than everyone who indulges in the free snacks. Congrats.

Agree. People tell themselves the same sort of untrue bias-affirming "facts" about fat people and their laziness and lack of discipline that bigots and racists use to justify their ugly beliefs.

I hire people for their minds and their people skillls and their ability to deliver. Thin people don't have any innate ability to do their jobs well. In fact, I have had as many many jelly and performance issues with skinny folks as with fat.

And no, I am not fat myself. But I have fat family members and fat friends and their demons are no different than anyone else's.

Ha, jelly should be health!

I would ask them general questions during the interview about their ability/willingness to travel, as jobs in my field would require that. If they indicated such willingness/ability, sure.

It's okay. They're activated almonds.
