The reasonable school options in DC decrease at the MS and HS level. (This is the DCPS/DCPCS forum, after all.) That is why parents switch from public to private or move to the suburbs. They are looking for the best possible option for their children. |
There's no right or wrong answer, and those who have the option of choosing private school for some period are obviously a very small, quite fortunate group. Given that, plenty of people do the opposite of what you're suggesting. Our kids are in private for elementary and middle (middle seems to be the most popular among people I know) and then going to public application school or Wilson for high school. Not saying that DCPS and charter high schools are perfect, but some people think that kids are better able to deal with DCPS's myriad issues by their teenage years, and also that the larger variety of extracurriculars and (at Wilson, at least) the broad range of classes can be beneficial. YMMV. |
