Okay by law they are entitled to a favor but they should pay, it's not like they can't afford it or ask for it to be included in moving package but at least it's not just a freebie! |
The person receiving this favor used to be a big time lobbyist before making over $200K a year from the city. Did Kaya help anyone that really needed it or just the folks with connections to help her with her next career opportunity? |
| Now can Mr. Wilson get us into Oyster; what should my excuse be? Ummm...... |
There must be some mistake. According to this article, the beneficiary of Kaya's largesse is "incorruptible": http://capitolstandard.com/so-you-want-to-be-a-big-shot-lobbyist/ |
No, our family was matched with our number one pick. We were extremely lucky. I just don't think it is fair. Democracy dies in the dark indeed. |
If you were #1 on the waitlist at CHM you should be ticked off! |
| Unfortunately, the DC government is still very Soviet in how privileges, special treatment and other favors are provided to members of the local "nomenklatura." |

More from the Post story:
Before becoming deputy mayor, Snowden was a principal at the Raben Group, a public-affairs and lobbying firm. She ran unsuccessfully for an at-large council seat in 2014. In an interview with The Post in October 2014, she said a desire to improve the public-school options available to District parents was what drove her into the race. “Looking for public school options for my son has been really difficult, particularly in Deanwood where I live. I had to make some really tough choices about where to send my son to school,” she said. “I entered the lottery, and we just couldn’t get into the good ones. People are hungry for excellent options.” Actually, you made a pretty easy choice: You asked the chancellor to put your kid in your school of choice, one that has a 1,000-kid waiting list. Someone of her means had multiple options available to her, yet she chose the one that was most unseemly. I don't care if it technically was a legal move on Kaya's part; it doesn't make it any less slimy. |
It also mentioned that her kid was previously in a private school. They should think about re-enrolling. |

The WP's latest:
"Two appointed officials working for D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D) received preferential treatment from the former schools chancellor, who directly placed their children in schools and allowed them to bypass the notoriously stressful and competitive lottery system, according to an investigation by the District’s inspector general. D.C. Council member David Grosso (I-At Large) said he learned during a briefing from Inspector General Daniel W. Lucas on Tuesday that two of the three government officials aided by former Schools Chancellor Kaya Henderson in the summer of 2015 were mayoral appointees. The third was a principal in the school system, Grosso said. In addition, four other people also received improper school placements from Henderson, Grosso said: a former District elected official, the head of a nonprofit that works with the school district, a staffer in the Obama White House and a former classmate of Henderson." https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/dc-politics/second-mayoral-appointee-implicated-in-school-lottery-scandal/2017/05/10/17e72092-35b2-11e7-b373-418f6849a004_story.html?utm_term=.3f38bcc6e769 |
I don't care if none of this was technically illegal. It's all just cheap, lazy cronyism and a de facto disqualification for further public service work. |
And, based on the published prerequisites for the chancellor to be allowed to give special dispensation, I'm not sure this was entirely legal, either. I'm going to guess that further digging is going to uncover a slew of quid pro quos that is going to make this look even worse. |
| Snowden whole job is to make east of the river better and more appealing. And yet, she sends her kid to cap hill for school. Got it. She doesn't want to be around those kinds of poor blacks folks I guess. |
| What did the Mayor know and when did she know it??! |
| Really, really! Kaya Henderson is gone. If she used her discretion to do it. That's what it is. None of you would be on here talking if she used her discretion for you. Nothing to see here in the real scheme of things. |
