Nancy Van Doren just went off the deep end

I read it was actually better for twins to be apart and develop separate identities at that age.

I had identical twin friends that had a really hard time emotionally. One got called the 'pretty one'--even though the differences were subtle. All kinds of comparisons.

I do hope someone posts this on Arlington Education Matters. The lack of civility toward Reid and the staff is appalling and this is not the first time. Nancy is a loose cannon. During her campaign she was frequently emotional. And now as a board member she is rude and conniving. I'm hoping that Talento will be her own person on the board, but as Nancy's handpicked candidate I have my concerns. The most important thing we can do right now is oust James Lander, who aside from being essentially useless on the board got called out by the Washington Post today for horrible comments he made blaming a domestic violence victim for her own murder. There are two other candidates running for School Board, either of which would be an improvement.

Why don't you post it?

What is AEM? A Facebook group? I'm not on FB, so maybe that's why I'm unfamiliar.

Couldn't someone just email the board a link to this thread? Email can be anonymous.

AEM is Arlington Education Matters. I would be surprised to learn that someone who is on AEM isn't on DCUM or ArlNow, where there is also a discussion of the NancyRant.

Where's the ArlNow discussion?

The problem with posting on FB is that it isn't anonymous. As a result, you've lost her for any future conversations about any issue if you're the one who calls her out. No point in my ever again speaking in front of the SB, sending an email. My name and the issues I care about would be blackballed. I really want to do it, though.

I found it in the comments to this article (you have to scroll down a bit too see all of the comments--they're a bit spread out).

One of the changes the APS staff is proposing is to eliminate the twin-as-one policy at the secondary level, i.e. at HB Woodlawn. The new policy would require each twin to enter the lottery and get in or not as an individual.

Nancy freaked out, essentially yelling at the staff that she "find[s] it offensive that people are willing to discriminate against the biological connection between twins. It can be very detrimental to separate them. I am really offended by that! It's a very special and psychological position they are in." She told them they couldn't "forcibly separate families." Never occurred to her that gee, maybe if the kids don't want to be separated then maybe they should just go to their neighborhood HS. She basically tried to force a Board vote on the issue. Tannia agreed with her, Reid didn't. Barbara said she didn't have a position, and James was silent. Major bitch mode.

Tell me again when she's up for re-election?

She was just re-elected last year.

My take on her is she's trying to be a power broker. She's not nearly as good as she thinks she is.

Who can take her seriously after her bizarre explosion, pronounced body language signaling that she can't stand Goldstein, and passive aggressive muttering caught on mic?

She's never going to do anything that she didn't plan to do in the first place. She will never change her mind on anything because that would be tantamount to admitting she was wrong or didn't have all the necessary information to begin with.

10:04 is right. If you try to get her to see a different point of view, she will either verbally blow you off or just walk away from you. I have no idea how this person got elected

People (like my neighbor) who knew that NVD would push for specific pet issues advocated for her, held meet and greets, and helped make her name one that people recognized. That's all it takes for some voters- they recognize a name, maybe they have briefly spoken to this person and heard some agreeable words come out of her mouth, so they give her a vote vs the other candidates that they haven't met. Doubts and regrets come later.

Ironically I had heard good things about her from Reid Goldstein!
