When a large number of teachers leave a school in one year

I don't know the total numbers. You can probably call the county and ask.

There are something like 30 new hires at Pyle and they are still interviewing to replace the people who left.

There is also a thread about how lack luster the MCEA Union is at protecting teachers against the rampant retaliation that's going on. Teachers are trying to teach students who all just expect great grades without working or showing up half the time. Principals are demanding this too and students don't have any consequences when they just surf their phones all class. If a teacher talks about behavior or grade inflation (which causes more bad behavior because many principals don't want negative numbers and don't enforce policy) they will be retaliated against( which supposedly is illegal) but staff collegues, the union, admin will not stand up for teachers because they are bitches whose job it is yo take abuse and take the blame-and it's ruining the profession and education as a whole. This is why teachers are going extinct. Give everything and take all the blame when get fuct.

Mcps and MCEA remind me of the Trump presidency. All these people will take the fall even if they are doing their jobs properly and the ones that are untouchable are the fat cats with easy jobs and job security and the ones chastised are the soldiers on the front lines who have ideals.

Washington Grove lost 19 teachers/staff this year. More wanted to go. Something stunk in that school.

Pyle is enormous, larger than some high schools. Also, it’s a terribly inconvenient commute for anyone outside the Pyle area. It shouldn’t come as a shock that there is a lot of staff turnover each year.

Not stinky--they implemented the two way immersion program. Makes sense that staff would change, especially if they are not bilingual or not qualified to teach in Spanish. Arcola and Nix also had a huge exodus, because they implemented the innovative school year. There are always people who leave when big changes are made. doesn't mean the culture of the school is terrible.

+1 I have no attachment to Pyle, but can attest that even well-regarded elementary schools in my area are losing teachers just due to commute. If there are no affordable SFHs nearby, and teachers are facing 1.5 hour commutes each way from someplace they can afford to live, you are going to have turnover.

Anonymous wrote:It doesn't take that much time to give an anonymous survey, and a principal doesn't have to be evil to drive out teachers. Some people are weak leaders because of other reasons. Maybe being afraid to take charge or to have an opinion or whatever. Or hiring awful people over and over again. This is true in any line of work. Some of the worst bosses I have had have sucked because they were afraid of conflict and had no backbone, but were nice enough one to one.

We already fill out a survey on admins every year. Please don’t give us anything else to do. We’re already under a huge work load with other paperwork not directly related to kids.

Not actually the dominant feeling among current MCPS staff/MCEA members. There are a few anti-union trolls screaming constantly on this site.

Nix had poor staff morale and then the extended year was the straw that broke the camel's back
