What type of dentist?

I think that I'll encourage my children to be dentists, instead of physicians. Who knew?!?

Yes except you have to look at people's DISGUSTING teeth all day. That is just revolting to me. Otherwise, agreed it's a great racket.

No, no, no! Don't do it. It's not an automatic path to high salary. This person is an outlier. I know several dentists through my sibling who is also a dentist and they Don't make near this amount. It's hard to start your own practice and get clientele. And then dealing with insurance...ugh. Plus dental school can leave you with hefty loans.
This poster may have taken over a family business. Kudos to him/her.

I agree with this. I am a dentist and I make $150,000 working 5 days a week as an associate. One can make more as a practice owner but this is difficult. The cost of opening up shop is high, overhead is high (50-60%), and negotiating with insurance is a pain. On top of that, almost all dentists graduate with a ridiculous amount of debt ($200k is considered low). I regret not trying for med school honestly.

Don't regret; at least you don't have to worry about the scope and amount of malpractice like an MD, and there are plenty of pediatricians and family medicine doctors out there who also make 150 K, and many have even more debt and started earning later.

I think so too. Why do they have so much time to spend on DCUM in the middle of the day and make the money they say the do? I'd fire their asses if they worked for me.

Meh. It's been my experience that the higher you get, the less micromanaged you are. As long as you're getting results, no one gives a flying fig if you're taking the occasional ten minute break and posting to DCUM. Now, if puttering around on the Internet sometimes is getting in the way of your results, that's a different story.

This.

Everything gets easier the more senior you are. As an analyst you have to be in the office early, you need to make every deadline, you need to be available late at night. Then you get promoted and no one cares if you come in a little later or leave a little earlier. Then you get an expense account and no one cares if you take clients to dinner instead of working on some shit. Then you get promoted again and you get to play golf during the day if you want to under the auspices of "client development".

I don't believe that.

People on here lie about their earnings and what they truly do for a living. On this forum, you can essentially re-invent yourself to a bunch of strangers whereas in real life, it's much harder to do.

Why would someone lie on an anonymous site? I posted previously with a high HHI. The only reason I told the truth about how high it is is because this place is anonymous!

$250K HHI. Both feds, one with an engineering bachelors, the other a science Ph.D. Super flexible schedules, very reasonable hours, both likely will be promoted in the next few years. Very happy.

Two Feds, a 14 and a 15 - make $275k. We didn't start out with this salary but waited until we were older to have kids, which out us in good stead for leave and salary.

270 = BD+Fed.

those of you in IT and make over $125,000- what exactly do you do? I am a project manager with an IT company for 10 years and don't make anywhere near that...

What kind of consulting?

Banking/finance. We usually have a better working culture than the clients we serve (eg I work 60 hours a week, not 90) so it's an ok middle ground.
