No, no, no! Don't do it. It's not an automatic path to high salary.  This person is an outlier. I know several dentists through my sibling who is also a dentist and they Don't make near this amount. It's hard to start your own practice and get clientele. And then dealing with insurance...ugh. Plus dental school can leave you with hefty loans.

I agree with this. I am a dentist and I make $150,000 working 5 days a week as an associate. One can make more as a practice owner but this is difficult. The cost of opening up shop is high, overhead is high (50-60%), and negotiating with insurance is a pain. On top of that, almost all dentists graduate with a ridiculous amount of debt ($200k is considered low). I regret not trying for med school honestly.[/quote]

Don't regret; at least you don't have to worry about the scope and amount of malpractice like an MD, and there are plenty of pediatricians and family medicine doctors out there who also make 150 K, and many have even more debt and started earning later.[/quote]
