all of the people making 250k, 300k, 500k - what do you do?!

500-800k depending on the year

DH is a lawyer, I run my own consulting business.

I worked in associations for years and we were closer to 500k then but we’re at 800k now that I’m on my own.

You don't have a HHI.

Two SUVs (luxury), kids in top private, etc. Vacations are the real difficult expense because they have large price tag. Net Worth around 1.6 million but most not liquid. Retirement account and investment properties.

That's not HHI, it's your husband's income.

Aw. Sorry if that's how it feels in your marriage, that sucks

There are always those posters who will assume people on an anonymous forum are lying about their salaries, or that people with high incomes or a decent amount of assets are all unhappy or bad people. I think it's hard for some to accept that (a) some people genuinely make more than you do; and (b) some people have nice lives with decent incomes and decent assets.

I’m 29 and make 250k, excluding bonus (50-100% of base). I’m in banking, though, so my hours are terrible and I have plenty of debt to pay off from business school, which I’m trying to do within the next year or so. I’m also single and probably will continue to be if I stay here for more than a few years, but that’s another story.

When people say "I work in consulting"... that's so freaking vague. That tells me nothing. That could mean you're a tupperware consultant or some fancy IT consultant who knows how to write SQLXYZ and no one else on the planet knows how to do it.

I’m one of the people who responded...I run a consulting biz. Do you really think I make $400 k a year selling Tupperware??

Think of any industry that needs strategic advice on how to make more money, improve their product, be efficient, launch a program, manage a team etc...those are some of the things consultants do....

Lots of consulting in the government space and defense contractors in this area

Non-pm jobs non technical top out around 100k

technical roles 50-150k

PM jobs can be anywhere from 100-200k

Most people never make it higher than that.

middle mangers/program managers 150-300k

and then upper management/VP/principal/Partner 250-500k

Clearances can add up to 50k to all these categories

Most American socialists have trust funds, so you're probably fine.
