SES Indicators

I don't care that much about someone's shoes because that doesn't always indicate status esp if it's something like sneakers. Can't judge much by what someone drives because around here it's more than likely that the really wealthy have more than 1 car and usually it's a high end SUV paired with a go-to work car like a Camry or Accord. Nothing wrong w those 2 types, but just saying that judging by car isn't always accurate.

I think clothes is a hit or miss. Some people esp guys just don't know how to shop beyond essentials.

This. We have a good bit of wealth but put around in a little Fiat daily commuter. Our Maserati
is garaged for fun weekend motoring. That's right we're not so filthy rich we don't work.

There's your middle class mistake right there. Screams "Euro-trash". Now a Lambghorini, Bentley, etc., yes.

"SES" Indicators? What are you people, rubes of the advertising industry?

We don't have passports, and we have a 7 figure HHI. Zero interest in leaving the continental US.

Seriously. If I had yellow teeth and could afford a million dollar home, I'd be willing to splurge on some teeth whitening.

It does not work and will strip your enamel.

Proles collect stuff like limited edition plates

Middle-middle class think graduating from college is an accomplishment, upper middle class care about prestigious colleges

Bowling is very prolish

We used to have lots of books in our house, but now we have Kindles and the older books are mostly boxed up.

Us too. We had hundreds of books just from college and early 20s. It felt so good to get rid of them, they were dusty and ignored. I love books and bookstores, but love not having them in my house unless I'm reading them. If I have a paper book, I give it to someone else when I am done with it.

Rich but middle class then, right?

Not sure what international travel has to do with SES.

We just have no interest. Certainly not afraid - not curious and not interested. Could change as our kids grow. We aren't against it, just haven't ever had a good reason to go - plenty to see here in the US and we don't have the travel bug. Going on a trip to walk around Europe doesn't sound relaxing to us.

Travel outside the US, shows global outlook, ability to broaden perspectives( not within everyone's reach). Ease of interaction with global cultures is an indication.

Well then you may have money, but not much education (not the kind you get in school).

Well to be fair the US is huge compared to most countries and contains a lot of different kind of terrain. You could go see a major city, desert, coastal region, lakes, mountains, etc. and still stay within the US borders. I do travel outside of the country but there are a lot of places within the US that I haven't been to yet that I would like to see (hiking in Maine, Charleston, Savannah, New Orleans, Oregon coast come to mind).
