backsplashes that make me want to scream

Thanks everyone for the marble back splash suggestion. I think that will look good and I will definitely explore the option.
I'm leaning towards the long thin marble tiles.

Regarding subway tile, I think it is fine to use in the kitchen and they come in some bright fun colors.

Backsplash seems so critical to a kitchen but very hard to get it right.

Sigh, I wish I had a kitchen designer.

Subway tiles have been around for 100 years! How can that be considered trendy?

Yes they have...in bathrooms.
They haven't been used as HGTV backsplash material until the past two.
