Are you returning or not returning to the same camp next year and why?

Will not return to Congo specialty bike riding camp. My daughter reported daily teasing of kids by the male counselors. One kid was hung up by the back of his shirt on a hook by a counselor and they all laughed.

That's a surprise. My DD has been going for 3 years (DC Campus) and loves it! She learn how to swim there 2 years ago.

Yes, my girl loves it. She loves arts and crafts and that it's a girl only space -- apparently, they can get competitive with the boys on things like singing songs loudly, which she loves. I'm sorry that the girls don't get to play in the creek like the boys do, but she doesn't seem to care.

Just reading this thread from last year - why are the girls now allowed to play in the creek?

It's not that it's there and they aren't allowed, it's that the creek runs through the boys' side of camp and not the girls'.

Why not Beauvoir?

How is Beauvoir for little ones?

Interesting. My rising K loved it. Commotion in the ocean is the one he is doing. He also loved mini sports camp at the Y.

Glad it worked for you. DD was hoping that the kids would have had more creative input into the stories like they did in last years classes. I was disappointed that 100% of their "crafts" were photocopies and crayons. I was also annoyed that the teachers in the magic suitcase section made the girls' parts "very scared" and the boys' parts "very brave to rescue them."

Ugh.

Yuck. I hope you complained -- totally inappropriate.

I just responded to a thread that was Beauvoir-specific. My pre-K daughter is loving it. Daily swim, field trips, "nature hikes," etc. Wish I could switch places with her. Nothing negative to say.

Also -- they make things easy on parents by providing snack and lunch, putting sunscreen on the kids if you don't do so yourself, etc. Very happy with it, and we're likely to return next year, though we may consider trying Valley Mill or Sandy Spring for a more "outdoorsy" experience.

Thank you--I saw your response! Very much appreciate.

My child is loving Fillmore Arts Camp! Small, nurturing, interesting variety of arts activities plus some swim time. She likes having choices in the classes, and the mix of classes with some running around /games time.

Year 4 at Traveling Players Ensemble. If you have a theater kid, it is a great experience. Classical theater rehearsed outdoors and performed as often as possible outdoors as well. Loads of fun and my kid's English teacher this past year was blown away by all she learned at camp. One week sampler camps are available for younger grades and longer programs available for middle school and high school kids.

NPS yes in a heartbeat for the younger set. I can't speak to the older ones as I have no direct experience. Cooking theme last week was so fun, with a field trip to the arboretum. Each week is themed. What really struck me is two things - the value is great compared to similar programs at bigger schools as well as the tone. NPS has been consistently warm and inviting and how can we help you..some of the bigger schools (won't name names) have been brusque and surprisingly disorganized. What can you do for us tone. The camp experience may be great, but I didn't enjoy the front door. I would send my child back to NPS for all around friendly, fun, kind camp.

We've returned to Sidwell for the majority of this summer because my son loved it for the few weeks he spent there last year. Also did HomeRun baseball camp for the first week of summer and my son loved that too, will return for the end of the summer.

Agree, this is also our third year at HF at STA. We've done the science camps, multisport and the day camps and been consistently pleased. I also credit HEadfirst for helping my son to really swim well.
