I'm paying full freight for private. I thought I would need aid and didn't. God is good. The first payment came out this week and I was able to give money to a friend in need and make the payment. I've come a long way!
I'm making money effortlessly in my career now. |
| I have over 12k in credit card debt, don't know how I got here and don't know how to stop. Well, I know how I got here. Just feel totally out of control. |
Forgot to add. Another single mom here. I was making 48K when DD was born almost 6 years ago. I also might possibly max out retirement this year for the first time ever.

Yeah, my MIL thought she had a valuable baseball card too. Turns out we can't even find a taker for it for $100 on ebay. Is yours really worth that much? |
Me too

And so is your family. Congratulations on your accomplishments! |
I can fly first class several times a year on 5+ hour flights. I only flew it for the first time five years ago. It makes me feel rich.

Ten years ago, I left an abusive, drug-addicted husband, taking just my year old daughter and barely a suitcase of clothes. I soon learned than my (now ex) had taken out almost $100K in loans in our names. He declared bankruptcy, so I was stuck with it all. Money was a constant stress and sometimes I couldn't even buy groceries.
Ten years later, I have a good job, nice house and wonderful life. I've fully paid off the debt and have begun to save for college and retirement. Our turn around seems almost impossible - except I'm the one who made it happen. Ex-h is no longer in the picture, but kid and I are doing really, really well. |
| Three years ago our net worth was negative 120k. Three years later through sheer saving our net worth is now half a million and no student loans. |

Learned early to save and to invest. Screwed up a couple times in a variety of ways, but never quit and never stopped believing.
Open a brokerage account and manage your own money. Take responsibility of your own life. Be a capitalist even if you have to start small. Give generously to others. Give until you've reached your limit. Never give with the idea of being reimbursed in mind. |
I am happy for you, pp. You are a strong woman and living my SIL's dream. |
Not to derail, but how does someone take out a debt in your name for which you can be held liable without your knowledge? Curious for myself (marriage concern). Forewarned is forearmed. |

I bought my car outright... 19 years ago. Still love it.
Last week I got new $180 Dansko shoes for $50. |
| My parents came to the US with nothing but one suitcase. We were really poor growing up. Paid for college on my own with jobs, financial aid and student loans. Am 40 years old and DH and I have a networth of about 2.4 million. We have no debt outside of our mortgage. Because we were so poor growing up, I am more of a saver. But now I am starting to loosen up worries about money and trying to enjoy it more. Have been doing more travels and renovations. |

I had a negative net worth at 25.
At 38, I was worth a million; at 44; two million. Only took until I was 48 to reach the third million and three years later, closing in on the fourth million. |
