Contingency Plans in FCCPS for Mt. Daniel?

It looks like there was one - the status quo

Yeah! I live in the area and it was clear FCCPS was trying to sneak this past the planning commission hoping no one would notice. I have nothing against FCC residents but they really should not be exporting more school children and traffic to a neighborhood outside the city.

Have you met the Falls Church News Press?

Good comments though, from both sides.

+1. The FCNP is very biased. They knew about this issue long before they ran the article. This is not a new issue, even though it was presented like it came out of the blue. Comments are good, though.

yes- Nick Benton clearly has zero understanding of the concept of 'objective journalism.' His view of journalism is to quickly pick a side on just about anything, and then 'report' in the most slanted way possible. He appears to have gotten crazier and crazier over the years--- I can remember when he first started the paper some 25 years ago and it was a valuable source of local news- nothing like the random rants it has devolved into today.

You crossed a line here. No need to attack an individual.

way to get off topic and post senseless back and forth argument instead of focusing on the original question.

So, what is the contingency plan??? Where is the freaking school board on letting those of us with kids at Mt. D know what the new plan is? How was the school board so sure this project was a done deal and projected that as fact when in fact there were still hurdles that could derail the project? Where is the communication with the parents explaining the current situation?? This looks like a giant circus. They were so quick to take our money and now they can't even plan responsibly and communicate with the very people who trusted that this would be managed effectively. I've lost confidence in the way things are run in the schools and city and am wondering if I should just freaking move and lower my taxes. such crap.

Did you subscribe to th construction updates? They sent out the update saying what the plan is for the fall - back to the regular school, same as last year. And it talks about the next meeting date. What else are you expecting - the updates have the information.

If FFX denies the permit, then a Plan B would need to be discussed but for now, everything is settled for the next year.

Also, maybe "like" some of the council member's FB pages, like Phil Duncan. He summarizes the issues. Also there is the Falls Church City Parents group, where a few people who are running for council and school board have been providing great summaries too - including upcoming meeting details.

But for now, the plan was communicated via the Construction Updates that each person was given the opportunity to subscribe too.

the construction "updates" have very little information. I would expect an email explaining that they got way ahead of themselves and made us all think this was a done deal when it clearly was not. My bigger point is the lack of responsible management this has demonstrated. After all of this, I certainly don't trust the school board, city council members or anyone running for those positions.
Council members and School board and City Council candidates all keep repeating the same talking points on their facebook pages, etc., yet I am yet to see one candidate or local politician demand the explanation from the school board for why the heck this happened. This is what the taxpayers deserve. I am yet to see a strong candidate emerge for any of these positions in the fall and this issue and the candidate's reactions to it have solidified that for me. Same old self interested people showcasing the same old political song and dance under the guise of "I am different than the rest- I am a citizen first." They are all politicians.

The construction update on the website is not at all informative about what's going on. That's how most things seem to work in FCCPS...little to no transparency.

Why don't you trust people running for School Board or City Council? You're right about there not being a strong candidate yet, but they all just declared last month for an election in November. Some have nascient campaigns started, but others are still polishing their platforms. And putting together fundraising plans. It unfortunately costs $12K or so to run a local campaign in FCC ... News Press ads, web sites, lawn signs ...

If you really don't like what you're seeing in the candidate field, you should run next year. But don't bi#c* about it on an anonymous forum.

That said, I agree that the construction update emails aren't useful. But click through to the Q&A and there's more detail.

Finally, just because the candidates you don't know and council and school board members you're not contacting aren't publicly calling Dr. Jones to the mat for explanations, don't think it's not happening behind the scenes.

+1. I've received several emails today about a Candidates' Forum at the American Legion tonight at 7pm. Sounds like many of the candidates will be there. Maybe you should go and ask the candidates these questions?

I didn't realize you weren't supposed to bi#c* on dcum. and thanks for clarifying that you are a candidate running.

I give credit to anyone who chooses to put themselves out there to run. Not many do. That said, I'd look VERY closely at the reputation and online ramblings of a few of the candidates.
