| My prediction is that she will be eaten alive. I hate to say that and I really hope I am pleasantly suprised but I don't see it happening. Walking the tightrope in DCPS is so hard. I think Melissa Kim got lucky at Deal that so many administrators chose to leave or retire just as she came in. |
LOL!!!!! Are you Kim Martin???? Because it seems she's the only person who would rank gym membership right up there with being given the option of attending Wilson. (She might also not realize that this is a perk given to many school leaders--and in some places teachers as well) |
| Did you also know that Henderson's son (not biological or by marriage) son went to McKinley No Tech and not their home school as well as John Davis' son was admitted to McKinley Tech....his son wanted to go to Wilson....but Davis definitely did not want his son to go to his home school....interesting.....I think something stinks to high heave when it comes to the kids of the top leadership that they do not send their children to their neighborhood schools...I would bet money that Martin was given permission to allow her son to attend Wilson even though they live is SE......Wilson is already overcrowded...some may say it is just one more...but what about those parent who want the same choice for their children.....my advice is for Martin to find a home in Fairfax....Alexandria.....Arlington.....Mo County....but why....she was able to negotiate this....it is a corrupt system with corrupt leadership.....DCPS will eventually crumple under the current leadership.....take my word for it.....the undertaker...... |
didn't they have a principal who was a minority.....a gay white male who came out of the closet.....that is diversity..... |
|
didn't they have a diverse principal who was a minority....a gay white male.....oh guess diversity only means the color of your skins....or your orgin of birth....
|
| In the last two years...you have had a principal change in six out of nine comprehensive high schools or 67% turn over....and one alternative school (Luke C. Moore)....the three comprehensive schools that have maintained their principal.....Eastern, Cardozo, and Woodson.....have a reputation for not pushing back on the lack of leadership and all have "volunteered" to be about part of the Georgetown Masters program even though one of the principal already had her doctorate....it was get with the program or find another district....now let's see all of the magnet high school principals have not changed....even though there was a scandal of one of the principal who hired his wife as an assistant principal...in which the story was that John Davis approved and then denied after being called on it.....but I guess he kept his job because he gave cover to Davis....I know that there are intelligent and engaged parents in the district....but the data does not add up....Henderson has been at the helm for five years....and really nothing has changed...there is more to this story than meets the eye....it is up to you to unearth it....I challenge you to think about the data....and what has really changed with these big salaries and bonuses to central office staff (at least the ones that stay) and to principals and assistant principals and even teachers....what are the results for spending $20,000 per student and what is the net benefit of this investment...not saying we should not be spending $20,000 per student if it were being spent strategically and getting results instead of being wasted on the program of the month....get real DC....are you getting the bang for you buck....if not...what needs to happen..... |
Hmmmm...this sounds like a whole 'nuther topic/thread. |
|
Initially Wilson was going to reduce the number of assistant principals by one.....either they were given an AP allocation (through the additional resources) or what I heard is that they decided on an additional vice principal instead of hiring two additional teachers....so two problems...Martin retained one of the current vice principals when she could have hired anyone that she wanted and the second problem is that I hear that class size is extreme....why did she choose to add an additional vice principal instead of putting two more teachers in the classroom to lower class size.....makes me say hmmmmmm

There are tons of black women leading DC schools who are lauded. I think Kaya Henderson is great!
Agree with your first statement....but Henderson is an idiot and a joke....and so are you for saying that she is great...name one great thing that she has accomplished....and I am talking about real concrete data.....she has accomplished NOTHING other than take up space....lots of space....maybe she is the one who needs the gym membership.... |

Reading this thread is eye opening. With all of you as constituents no principal can succeed. You are all a bunch of know it alls that want to sit in the back of the room and take pot shots and spout cliches. Whatever else the new principal needs to do she'll need to let you all know she's the boss and you aren't. Maybe its like prison? She should pick the biggest loudest one of you at a meeting and just (verbally) kick the crap out of you and assert her dominance to let the rest of you know she's in charge.

NP here. Completely agree with the post to which you replied. You and your ilk come off as horrible, judgmental people. |
I could care less about this. |
I couldn't care less about this undertaker. But I do find you a wee bit intriguing with all your ellipses. |

Parent of a Wilson student here. I am thrilled that Principal Martin is sending her child to Wilson. In fact, I'd be furious if she was not.
It shows she believes in herself, and puts her money where her mouth is. As a parent, I appreciate the fact that she has an interest in the school as an administrator AND as a parent. Her incentives are aligned perfectly. |
The parent in me agrees that having the principal's own children in the school gives me confidence that 1--the school can't be that bad & 2--the principal will ensure it's a good, functional school. |
