Wow, 21:32, really low scores for eligibility.

I'm 21:32, and I'll say, I was unsure until I saw the GBRS., but I, not sure they're really low. if the criteria had not changed to composite this year, she would have been in pool with her 132 verbal on the CogAt. I think her age worked to her advantage. Her teacher spoke of her classroom leadership, and how she innately took on the of teacher with classmates in need of help. Despite being the very youngest in her class, her teacher and AART strongly recommended I refer. I was honestly blown away by the insightful commentary on her 16 GBRS.

the one and only 16 so far

That was my DD. I will say, her teacher put A LOT of effort into that GBRS report. She included very specific examples of behaviors/acts in the classroom and out (like at recess). I knew about some of these things, but not about others. It was an interesting read, and more information about my child than I've gotten (albeit indirectly) from any of my kids' teachers so far. I would recommend to anyone who had a packet prepared to request a copy.

My DD got a 16 last year, too. It contained about 4 pages of singled spaced typed commentary. I was shocked at the details provided. It covered nearly all aspects of her day, things she says, quotes she'd said, how she handled situations, questions she asked, answers she provided, etc. EXTREMELY detailed.

Can you tell us what school your child attends. I'm pretty sure the teachers at our school don't put in nearly that effort. Great teacher whoever she/he is!

Seriously, I want to know, too. My DC's teacher gave one sentence each for his resport. I feel she doesn't care or know so much about my kid.

You do know the teachers have a classroom full of children - not just your child - right?

That's why a teacher who does make the effort to follow each child closely enough to write a thorough report is exceptional, in my opinion.

Is it possible that there are other factors in the decision-making process we aren't considering here, such as the county's financial considerations? For example, is it possible that it would cost the county more to children eligible who live outside a center boundary than a child who lives within the boundary? Someone who has followed this process closely for years has suggested as much.

Check the GBR score and appeal.

Honestly, I can believe the 160 NNAT and COGAT 124 did not get in. I've always understood there needs to be multiple indication of giftedness for them to admit. If the GBRS, works samples, and DRA do not indicate this ability, all you have is the 160 NNAT which easily can be prepped for. Remember the NNAT is easier to prep for. Also, if the 160 NNAT occurred, the school would have known the child would have been in pool since 1st grade and start working on collecting work samples at that point. If they can not get work sample that corroborate this ability, I think it would be suspect.

My DC NNAT is 160, CoGAT 126 Composite, and GBRS 15 ( both 1st grade and 2 nd grade - for those of you who is wondering about 1st grade GBRS, they do give out if you ask for it ). DC is admitted this year. So unless the GBRS is really low (I.e below 8) , I don't believe this case.

The DRA at the beginning of 2nd Grade was what it should be in 3rd grade. Also being instructed above grade level in both math and reading. Her progress report also has mostly 4s and a few 3s. Except in the first Q report where the teacher gave all 3s. In the parent teacher conf in the 1Q i remember the teacher commented that my child does not ask any questions in the class and she wants the child to speak up. Now i don't know if that would have affected GBRS.
