How much do you spend on childcare monthly?

That would be ideal in some ways (if you don't mind kids being that far apart in age- has it's positives/negatives) but biological clock is not on my side- met DH too late in life!

then you wouldn't have 2 in college at the same time either!

can someone explain this extra year thing?

The child will turn 5 before 30 sept. If their birthday is later and they turn 5 in say December, they may not be able to start kindergarten and you would have to pay for childcare rather than send them to presumably free school.

Where did you find this nanny

Care.com

$9/hr for 3 toddlers? No way

Yeah - that's crazy (said as a mother of twins w/ a FT nanny.)

Unless she's a live-in and this is on top of full room and board, this is really highway robbery.

$60 after school care for 5 year old
$55 one night paid babysitter per month

= $905

We also have an $1800 bill for summer camp for both kids for six weeks. Then the youngest starts school and costs drop to about $120 a month for aftercare.

Personally I think people paying close to $2k a month for a single child are NUTS and have more money than sense.

I am one of those who are NUTS. I would love a full-time preschool for my 2-year-old for $800/month. Would you mind sharing the school or, if not, at least where you are located?

That can't be legal, can it? How can that include taxes?

$940 a month ($235/week) for an in-home daycare. Just my 1 yr old and a 20 month old currently there. We will pay more for pre-school, surely!

$2700 for a 4yo and 2yo in Ashburn - daycare

~ 1600 in a downtown center for my 1 y/o (including the diaper program). If/when we have another I just don't see how we could swing tuition for both (even with the paltry family discount). It's crazy!

I wish I had thought of this. I will have baby #2 in October. Currently paying $1400 at suburbs daycare for toddler. Hope to have her in part time preschool and nanny for #2, costs not that hugely different than sending two to daycare. Did you know if you have two kids at the BH chain at my workplace it costs you over $4400? My take home pay is not even $4k. But it's a federal job and I intend to work two more decades.
