Can you bring Tupperware with pudding on plane in purse/carry on?

^Not op's recipe. Just wanted to clarify.

In a pudding cup layer in order -

Vanilla pudding (homemade if you can, otherwise box is fine)

Crumbled vanilla wafers

Sliced bananas

Dollops of Cool Whip

Crumbled walnut/a sprinkling of nutmeg if you want

That sounds super easy (if disgusting). Not sure it's worth all this anxiety.

It's not the Op's recipe. Just an example of how you can throw together something very quickly. I'm sure that someone could come up with something a bit more elegant - maybe even a layered pumpkin/vanilla dish.

But the MIL requested that dish specifically, not just anything. I'm with the people upthread who are wondering why the MIL can't make/buy her own dessert.

Who knows, maybe Op asked what she could bring and that is what MIL came up with. I suppose Op could always lie and say that she pre-made it but it was confiscated by security on the plane. Honestly, I would either just make the dish when I got there and if that wasn't practical I would come up with some sort of substitution. Op could give MIL a heads up - this dish won't travel well so I am bringing/making "X" dish instead. If MIL doesn't like it, MIL can make the original pudding herself or buy another dessert.

Upthread OP said she was pissed that no one else was asked to bring anything to Thanksgiving dinner except her.

O.k., what could be the possible reason for that? Did Op ask what she could bring hoping that MIL would say - "Oh, don't worry about it" but instead MIL said "Thanks dear! Could you make that wonderful pudding for us?" Maybe no one else offered to help...maybe they all are bad cooks.

You can't just freeze a pudding--the consistency is ruined after thawing. You MIL is a SLAVE DRIVER

If it's that Nilla Wafers thing that's on the box, then you're a better woman than I.

Good idea, although since OP is driving 5 hours from the nearest airport it's unlikely there will be a trader joes, or any store, open thanksgiving day. When we've gone to our summer place for thanksgiving the only place open is the convenience store at the gas station.

OP, may be too late but what about mail ordering Georgetown cupcakes? They have a thanksgiving collection. The cupcakes ship well, and you'll be done with this ridiculousness about pudding. Who wants pudding on thanksgiving anyway.

So where is this place anyway?

OP's MIL lives in Hardscrabble Gorge, West Texas. There's a long and brutal history of wives being forced to bring or make pudding there. It's about time someone spoke out.

Yeah, still trying to figure out the logistics of this. Can't think of many places that would be a 2 hour flight, then a 5 hour drive. Maybe northern Wisconsin? Or the UP of Michigan? Those might be pudding happy places.

NP. DH and I are making a similar trip for the holidays to his parents. There is an airport where they live, but it is tiny and flights are $$$$. We are "saving" $600 total by flying to the international airport 4 hours away and then driving the rest. Sucks. I have a feeling OP is in a similar situation.

Ha, I actually like that recipe. It's yum like frito pie is yum. I'm sure it could be gussied up a bit - maybe add some shaved gourmet white chocolate on top? Or not..
