Why do Christians always try to convert you?

I don't know, my mom is super Christian and raised us as such and I can't stand the religion now. I felt guilty about this for awhile until I realized that I am MUCH happier since being spiritual rather than religious than I ever was before.

It's never too late to come home.

especially if Mom is super-Christian, right? What if she were a pagan - would you be urging the errant child to come home?

Live your life, be a good person, do good works, be happy and people will want to follow.

There is so much negativity as evidenced in the world, on this thread, on this board.

Yes. I have contributed to it and I regret it.

Try to be good and hopefully people will follow that are also good. No one needs to evangelize anyone if they are not interested.

Christians do NOT always try to convert people. The very BEST try to live by example by screwing up a whole lot along the path of life.

And they don't in the year 2014 kill people in the name of their religion.

They do not be-head people.

They do not wage war in 2014 in the name of Christianity.

GOD BLESS.

in other words, Christians are better than Muslims -- at least nowadays.

Curious, what does "spiritual" mean to you?

It is actually AGAINST Catholic doctrine to proselytize or try to convert. This post applies more to born again Christians, not all Christians. I had a roommate in college who wAs born again. She said she was expected to evangelize. I said I grew up being taught that being a good Christian was to be a good person ( to others). She looked at me puzzled and said No it's to evangelize. LOL.

+1. To me this always sounds like "whatever I want" or "I'm a good person by the soft rules I feel like following."

When did they change the rules? The Catholics forced the natives in south America to convert, not to mention all the pagans of Europe -- and the Jews in Spain. All under pain of death , in some cases, preceded by torture.

Also, Catholics used to require a non-catholic spouse to promise to raise their children Catholic -- maybe they still do.

Christianity is a universalizing religion (as is Islam), thus the inherent conflict between the two. Judaism is not universalizing and is based more on ethnic identity (though obviously one can convert to Judaism. All Christians, including Catholics, should want to bring non-Christians to the gospel (which translates to "good news") of Jesus Christ. It is called the great commandment. While there are some that perhaps do not use the best approach, and many are a bit too enthusiastic, their goal is to be commended and they are following the example of Jesus. Yes, as a Christian, I want all non-believers to convert. I am really shocked at the number of Christians who don't seem to know that it is because we love all people, as Jesus said we should, that we want them to have what we do, a personal relationship with our Savior who helps us, guides us, shows us the way and forgives us when we mess up. And, yes, I do have a Ph.D. in Science, and I do live in the "bible belt" and yes, I am a Christian.

If you knew of something that was so wonderful - so beautiful, so incredibly amazing, so wonderous -- wouldn't you want to tell everyone about it, so that they could know about what this most amazing and inspiring thing was??
