What can I use on my mailbox to stop dogs from peeing on it?

Jesus people. This thread was originally posted in 2016. 07:25, what did you do? Use the search bar to search up pee and mailbox so you could stir the pot all over again?

This dead horse has been beaten enough.

Earlier than that. First post was on 08/12/2014. Some people love necroposting.

If it's searchable, and not deleted/removed/archived, it's fair game. I'm not the one who resurrected it but, seriously, what is your problem? Scroll on past if you are not interested.

Most do at least pick up the feces which is a step in the right direction. Dogs should be walked around their owners property
until it does most of its business.

Thank you. The argument that many animals pee/poop on our lawns isn't reasonable. Dogs tend to pee in the same spot and over time damage lawns. I had one dog owner who let her dog go in my yard every single day and you could see the spots. I said something to her and she stopped but her kids didn't.

I know this post is old, but for anyone looking for a new alternative...

If you have room to plant a border around your mailbox, here are plants that will physically discourage dogs from checking out your mailbox:

Plants that repel dogs

Prickly plants such as aloe, agave, prickly pear, hollies, barberries, and huckleberry are plants that deter dogs and cats and that can be used as borders around garden areas to physically block access. Dogs don't enjoy strong odors such as garlic, onion, or citrus. Garden Guides suggests mixing citrus peels into your mulch to provide an extra scent barrier.

I’ve got a so called neighbor that stops at my mailbox and wait for his dog do whatever. I’ve tried moth balls, perfume &
sprayed weed killer in the summer. Nothing seems to work!
Plan to spray fuel oil next & hope it works!

Probably because you let it pee in your neighbors' yards and not your own.

Apparently according to DCUM apartment dwellers don’t exist. I don’t have a yard, I guess my dog should be wearing diapers?

It’s a tiny drop of liquid. Chill tf out people.

Now that's a good idea!
Maybe people should not have dogs or other animals if they don't have enough space for those animals within their own property boundaries.
Why should everyone else to accept someone else's intentional wrong?
Creating nice landscape just for your dog to pee on and kill is not a very neighborly action.

My 2 cents;

One of these times, somewhere, some ignorant/arrogant dog walker/owner will cross paths with some stupid, outraged/2nd amendment gun nut, and the outcome may not be good.
What if;
We lose the guns and the dogs being allowed to pee on everything that's not grade level (and poop on it when it is) including mailboxes, ornamental grasses, boxwood bushes, and fences, etc.
The world would be just a little bit better off.

I don't believe all the arrogant jerks that made many of these comments. I have the same problem with these self righteous people that think our mail boxes are their right to use for their dogs peeing pleasure. I am going to try that Cayenne and Chili powder mix. I could put out a cup of antifreeze, though that will kill the dog, which is over the top and illegal.

You are ridiculous.

Keep your animal waste on your own property. Feel free to walk your dog
on a short leash on the sidewalk.

If you can't afford property sufficient for an animal, you shouldn't have a pet.

Np. Pp that is ridiculous what you wrote at the end.

I think it's mean to put a big dog alone in an apartment or condo all day - like lots of my neighbors do.

e] I own 2 Great Danes. I love dogs. Everyone in my neighborhood has a yard. That is were my dogs go to the bathroom. Most of my neighbors walk their dogs so THEIR yards don't get pee or poop in them and instead use MY mailbox post! Which now all the paint is peeling off the bottom where all their dogs pee on. It is an expensive mail box and makes the neighborhood look nicer. Now because they all want a green lawn with no brown spots I have to go paint my mailbox post over and over. NOT RIGHT. NOT POLITE. NOT RESPECTFUL. You are damaging my property and making it look horrible and not to mention the extra work I have to do so your lawn can be green. If I let my dogs( who pee alot more than a small dog your lawn would be dead in 1 summer. So maybe now you can understand it a little better. I won't get over it and you sure can tell what kind of person you are. I would love to come to your house and let my 2 great danes pee and poop all over your property so I can tell YOU to get over it!!! Jerk!
