Poor or middle class food

Oh, kitten - I'll bet you that not one of us who has responded to our completely un-self aware $500K is any sadder than she is. There's no "mob mentality" here (my, you Fox News watchers get testy!); we're pointing out that she sounds like a complete goon: oh, we're so rich but we eat like the poors do! Yes, when you wish to - but she can afford to go to NYC for the night and eat wherever she likes. As far as I can tell, that is ignorant, out of touch, and lacking empathy.

And you have a serious lack of creativity and an abundance of paranoia if the best slam you can dig up is "other posters blame you for their (sadder) lot in life." That's all you, babe, thinking any of us is sad or blames anyone for anything.

My relatives live in Martinsburg, WV. They move there from here about 20 years ago. They are definitely working class and I am slightly better off but in terms of food, I admit that I equate what they serve with lower SES.

The really stick to very salty, processed stuff and it's pretty tasteless. I usually polish off the smallish veggie tray they put out with carrots and celery. I brought an appetizer once that had goat cheese and they thought of it as an "exotic" ingredient. The same with hummus. I think these are pretty standard fare. My child was served both at her large chain daycare years ago.

Hunh?

Our HHI is $500k, and this is one of my kids' favorite meals. Black beans and rice. Who knew it was poor food??

Are you a complete moron? What are the staples of indigenous people in Latin America? rice and beans. India? Lentils/ beans and rice.

Why do you think they are staples, cheap and together rice and beans form a complete protein.

Maybe you need to get out of your sheltered $500k HHI world and see how others live before you say stupid things.

I'm Hispanic and eat rice and beans. I take offense to this. It's just delicious, that's why. All vegetarian food is cheaper.

Lil' Hugs drinks. I hate that kids in my Title I school are bringing these to schools along with cold French fries from the corner carry out rather than eat the school lunch.

Low class food to me is canned foods, ramen noodles, Tang, Kool Aid, Wonder bread (thank gawd they stopped making that crap), lunchables, mcdonalds, kraft mac and cheese.

I am not saying I don't give my kids these things sometimes, but I think they are disgusting.

Kool aid, Mountain Dew, things like Doritos and cheese doodles.

Foods with poor nutritional content. So highly processed foods of any kind.

For restaurants: all fast food joints besides in& out, tgi Fridays, Applebee's, Olive Garden, outback, sizzler, red lobster, etc.

Real poor people eat a lot of chips. and McD $1 food and pizza slices.
Anonymous
Real poor people do not go out to eat at Applebbes, Outback or any other sit down restaurant.

Outback is our fast food. When we are out and about and it's too late, I am not driving through Mc Donald's to feed my kids crap. I would much rather them eat a steak and vegetables instead.

I'm so happy you can afford that pp....

I'd rather just plan ahead to feed my kids than waste $$ on crappy food from Outback. We eat out only because we actually want to, the thought of dropping $50 for a mediocre meal at the outback pains me.

I am totally disgusted that things like bagged salad, frozen chicken, 2-liter sodas, and large containers of ice cream are even being mentioned in passing as food for "poor people."

THESE ARE ALL REAL FOOD, you clowns. Just food. Food. Food that all different kinds of people eat.

This is so nuts.
