Poor or middle class food

Anonymous
I must say some of you people are down right sickening.

Poor food? How about GOVERNMENT CHEESE. Have any of you ever tickled your taste buds with that delicacy? Oh, Tom Sietsema would be in HOG HEAVEN if a large block of that gooey, orange nastiness were delivered to his office with a box of powdered milk. THAT IS POOR FOOD. It is SO POOR, you don't even have to BUY IT! It's GIVEN TO YOU!!! Yes, I remember this from my youth. Good times. I think I remember thinking places like Applebee's were nice back then. Now I think of them as middle class, suburban places but I do not think of them as POOR places.

Aside from a few compassionate, sane people on this thread, the majority of you need to get over yourselves and find Jesus or some other higher power - or better yet take a good long hard look at your miserable selves in the mirror and maybe be GRATEFUL for the things you have and stop poking fun, being mean, nasty and snarky to those less fortunate. I cannot even believe most of the comments on this thread!

I truly believe that people like the $500K HHI poster must truly be miserable (whether or not her HHI is ACTUALLY $500K or not). You are hiding behind a computer and insulting those you perceive to be less fortunate than you. Go help someone less fortunate than you - go volunteer - go to church - do something NICE.

P.S. I have come a LONG WAY from the government cheese and powdered milk but I will never forget it and I will always help others less fortunate than me and be kind to others. Unless they are smug witches that deserve a smack-down. Thank you, that is all.

I don't find those to be nutritious either, PP, and I have been having to explain to my kid that I don't buy Hugs. But to say you hate that they're being this stuff? That's like saying "I hate that the kids on my Title I school are wearing coats that are too big because they can't afford to buy new ones for each kid each year."

Terrible word choice, PP.

Whole wheat rotis made fresh with a bag of flour bought in bulk, some kind of a vegetable curry (whatever is in season, on sale, frozen), and dal. Also, yogurt or milk. That was dinner 6 nights out of 7. If I live to be 100 it will be because of the strong nutritional foundation my parents gave me. Not all poor people are feeding their kids garbage.

That sounds delicious!

THESE ARE ALL REAL FOOD, you clowns. Just food. Food. Food that all different kinds of people eat.

This is so nuts.

I agree with you but buying 2-liter sodas is a sign of poor choices not being poor.

Sunflower seeds? Can you explain why??

The OP asked about poor and middle class. This thread is like a competition to see who can out do who on knowledge of what people living in poverty eat. Interesting but not quite what the OP actually asked.

Do you ever ride metro? It's not uncommon to see shells all over the floor where someone has eaten the seed and spit the shells out. They have a stigma.

Government cheese was awesome! I loved it as a kid. My mom would buy other people's cheese because we loved it so much.

We also got canned salmon and made salmon patties out of it. Also awesome.

I really didn't know. Don't take the metro to go to work.

I love salmon cakes from canned salmon. It's an affordable way to get wild salmon.

What real poor people eat is pretty scary. Like a bag of Doritos for dinner. Fried bread. Hotdogs.
