Are you in a friendly neighborhood or unfriendly?

Very friendly 22207 neighborhood with a mix of young families and older long time residents.

There are a few curmudgeons however, who hate new construction or are jealous of it ( something like that).

This is more common than you know. My friend moved into the first new house on the block (not the original owner, who lasted a very, very short time). A curmudgeon walked by and said "hey, the second new house, why don't you buy it?" Not sure what kind of snark he meant by it, she said "why don't you?"

Silence.

Warwick Village, Del Ray -- extremely friendly. Love our neighbors.

How do you tell? You could walk through and the neighbors may seem nice, but in reality, it might be Peyton Place. No one wants that.

If you don't know anyone who lives there, is there a way to tell if you are moving next to the neighborhood crap stirrer?

Knock on doors, ask other neighbors, see how they respond to you and what they know?

I live in a friendly neighborhood, but if a stranger knocked on my door to ask me about the neighborhood, I probably wouldn't come off as friendly. I think it's rude to intrude on neighbors' homes. What would be a good way to find out about the neighborhood is to take a walk or drive and ask people who are already and out and about.

Agree with this. Also very very friendly in our neighborhood just next to Alcova Heights, Barcroft in S Arlington.

I’ve lived a bunch of places in the DMV over the last 15 years. My ranking

Reston Condo - mixed, drinks and singles our age were very friendly, original Restonians were not friendly and were mostly strange
Reston Town House - very friendly
Herndon SFH - very unfriendly with exception of a couple neighbors
Cathedral Height condo - short term renters very unfriendly, owners friendly
AU Park SFH - mostly very friendly, a few very busy neighbors who come off as unfriendly mostly because they’re always in a rush but if they have time they’re friendly

Our neighborhood in 22101 is like this. There’s a few neighbors that you never see and have never met but all the ones with kids are very friendly and host events.

Friendly, but not really social. People walking by will say hello or have surface conversations, but we don't have block parties or see bunches of kids playing together. In North Arlington.

Woodley Park, very friendly for families with kids and active retirees.

Really? Surprised about this. You must be on a nice street.

We moved out of our most unfriendly house ever in Vienna (historic district). Neighbor would blast music for their pool constantly. Ugh- money does not mean class nor even a bit of understanding that your neighbors don't appreciate the 2 am blast!

I don’t particularly care about saying hi to neighbors. I’m just trying to get my (reactive) dog some exercise while being out in the neighborhood streets and any conversation would mean my dog would start barking

I guess I’m the unfriendly neighbor
