The ignorance in this thread is astounding. That hasn't been the Ole Miss flag in many years. I'm the poster from many pages back whose son was about to graduate from Ole Miss. Here is the update - He graduated in the spring. He received a job offer before he even graduated. He now lives in Charleston. His starting salary was 92,000. Not bad for a brand new college grad. Oh, and no student debt. He went to Ole Miss on a full merit scholarship.

How many times do we read on dcum about kids in the DC area who just can't find jobs? How hard it is for new grads to find work these days? Kids buried in student loan debt? Kids living with Mom and Dad because they can't afford to move out? We have three college grads. Our oldest went to Ole Miss. Our second went to Colorado. Our third went to Florida. Our fourth is in school at Ole Miss. Other than helping out with living expenses, college has cost us nothing.

It's great if your kids want to go to an expensive Ivy. Pretty sure my National Merit Scholar could have gotten into any school she chose. She chose a full ride at University of Florida. Ivys and expensive schools great, but state schools can offer a oath to success as well.

It’s not just ignorance. It’s stupidity. Virtually any discussion of a school,in the Deep South falls quickly into the regional and class prejudices of the people on this board, many of whom consider themselves open-minded progressive types.

I guess you missed this article a few pages back.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/grade-point/wp/2015/10/26/ole-miss-takes-down-its-state-flag-with-confederate-emblem/?utm_term=.62a41ba7a607

That's not a Confederate flag. It's not even a university flag, so don't put that on the university. How many other Southern state flags have some Confederate motif in their state flags?

Massachusetts has an Indian on theirs, yet the Puritan fathers of Massachusetts Bay Colony wiped the Wampanoag from this continent in King Phillips War. Did you study that in your American history class, or did you just get the Happy Pilgrims and the Indians all singing kumbayah at the First Thanksgiving?

Who cares? And how is that relevant to anything?

Well, she is a teacher in Alexandria and lives in DC. She grew up living all over the US and in three different overseas countries. So I would say she has many, many friends "of color". But hey, continue to live in ignorance if it makes you feel superior to others.

I find this salary pretty incredible for a 1st year out of college student in Charleston. What job is he doing?

The thing about Ole Miss is it's hard to get there, short of driving and it's a long drive.

He works in the tech field. He was in the Chinese Flagship program at Ole Miss. That helped a lot.

Did he minor in puffing his salary, or were the paychecks issued in Confederate Dollars? No one who has ever even visited Mississippi makes that as a starting salary. Sorry; false.
