Ole!
Our county’s population has grown more diverse over the past decade. Montgomery County’s Hispanic population grew at the fastest pace (64.4 percent), followed by Asian and Pacific Islanders (37.0 percent), Blacks (25 percent) and other minority groups (21.3 percent). The 39.3 percent increase in all minority groups combined offset a 7.8 percent decline in the number of non-Hispanic Whites living in the county. Minorities now account for more than half the population within Montgomery County. http://bccdcrealestate.com/2012/02/01/census-fun-facts-montgomery-county-md/ |
Of course. It will only increase once the amnesty takes place and more people stream in here from the south. We are one of the top 5 places to migrate to because our taxes go to so many of their freebies. http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2011/06/29/illegal-aliens-guide-to-top-five-best-places-to-live-in-america/ |
Heaven forbid the Elite should co-mingle with the plebes!

Wow, a thread about MoCo hiding poor math scores has morphed into an anti-immigrant thread? |
Slice the numbers and see for yourself what is driving the poor test scores, rampant budget increases, and additional teacher/aide hiring. Here's a hint, it isn't your kid's needs or capabilities! |
Wow, MoCo is "endorsed by millions of illegal aliens and one of 'the" places to go", right after California. "'2. Montgomery Country, Maryland If jobs are what attract you, then this upscale community close to our nation's capital offers the mother of all magnets. The first step to getting a job is to visit a Casa De Maryland (CASA) Welcome Center. Their employment specialists help you find a job and don’t give a hoot about your legal status. They will even help you acquire an IRS-issued taxpayer identification number because, of course, you’re here illegally and not eligible for a real Social Security number. This powerful organization is truly the illegal alien Welcome Wagon with $16 million in assets, $4.9M of it acquired in 2010 from government contracts! Don’t worry about Secure Communities because the County recently opposed its implementation. And for college-bound illegal aliens, take advantage of in-state-tuition now that the state passed the Maryland Dream Act.'" |
The meat of the story is about MoCo's cover-up, not the actual scores. As pathetic as MoCo's pass rate is, it is higher than the middle school math pass rate here in Alexandria. As for what is driving the scores, early math acceleration has long been a suspect. My cousin is a teacher in moCo and they have suspected that for a while. Not many kids can do algebra in 7th grade, so a lot gets skipped. |
Well, when staffers can do anything they want and hire anyone they want because they are "good for that particular school", what do you expect?
So many teachers are hired at the last moment and given emergency certification to be certified within 3 years. It is more common at the elementary level, but nevertheless exists at the middle and hight school level too. Some principals fight to keep the best teachers. Others give in, fearing retaliation from the staffer. |
Our taxes are going to socially care for them thru ESL and FARMS then to educate our kids. They very much should be in the same equation. |
(I like the way "They don't pay taxes!!!!!!!!!!!" and "CASA gives them a Taxpayer Identification Number!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" ends up in the same thought.) |
Honest questions: do you think all illegal immigrants get a TIN, and do you think the taxes they put into the system balance the cost of the services they get? |
If you fuss about illegal immigrants not paying taxes (although they do, regardless of whether or not they get a TIN), you can't also fuss about CASA helping illegal immigrants get TINs -- unless your goal is to improve your ability to fuss about illegal immigrants not paying taxes. |
+1000 Just because a small percentage get a TIN does not mean they pay anything in federal/state taxes. That is for middle and upper class to pay. They receive a ridiculous amount of services that offset the amount that truly goes towards teachers, better schools, decreased class sizes, extracurriculars, etc... They send their kids for meals and babysitting so they can work their under the table jobs and send money back to their home country. |
No they don't. If they don't have a TIN, they don't pay income taxes. We all pay sales tax if that's what you're referring to. |
Please explain how somebody living in the US can not pay anything in federal/state taxes. You can start with the state sales tax. Also please explain what you expect MCPS to do about federal immigration policy. |
