NP. I perceive you to be a person who makes rash judgments. Empirical evidence suggests that this perception is, in fact, reality. |
How ironic. Did you only read the bolded beginning part of this sentence and leap to a conclusion? |
Again, I personally know 3 families that left CM last year 2013 and are now at other charters. This is a fact. I'm not sure why you're stating things as facts when I know them personally. |
Mind saying more? Why did they leave for other local schools? |
Who cares? Over 90% of families stayed and love the school. Families switch schools all over the city. It's a choice issue...maybe they wanted immersion, maybe the commute didn't work, maybe it wasn't a good fit. The take away is that CM families are overwhelmingly happy. Ignore the trolls who keep trying to stir the pot. |

Different poster than the person who asked for more details, but I care, because the idea is to get a full picture if you have to rank schools. I know CM isn't part of the common lottery this year, but some of us are in a mindset that you want to try to know as much as possible about every school you're considering. What if those few families that left were all African American? That would matter. That would be important to know. What if they all left because they had an issue with behavior? I'm not saying that there is an obligation on the part of parents/schools to share this info, but to the degree people on DCUM are willing to talk about it, it IS useful to know why families leave a popular school, even if it's just a few. |
90% retention is amazing for a new school.
Of the three children who left after PS3 last year, on child who got into an immersion program and the twins who moved. |
I agree 100%. I wasn't mentioning the 3 families that left as a reflection of the school, merely as data to give people idea of wait list and expectations of getting in. |
CM parent - I think someone would be crazy to leave the school unless they somehow managed to get into another lottery, which is basically impossible after PS due to limited open spots combined with sibling preference. There is a group of parents tring to get their kids into YY but they haven't been able to. But CM has a lot going for it educationally and also has good aftercare. |
CM parent here. I agree that a lot if the negative comments appear to be from people whose children do not attend the school. I love the economic and racial diversity of the school. I've never heard teacher complaints about communication issues with Golnar, but that sounds like a relatively minor issue that can be addressed. I am a little frustrated about the ongoing uncertainty regarding the school move, but I've also heard about the awful landlord that is putting the school in a terrible situation. You can't blame the school for that.
I also second the shout out to Mr. Conklin the music teacher - he works magic with those kids! My kids are so excited when it's music class day. |
CM is vastly superior to my awful IB school. We thank out lucky stars we got in and don't really care about location, facilities etc. |
