| NP. Literally never heard of Wake Forest until like 4 years ago. |
| Also, while Wake Forest seems to be ranked #28 on US News, its global rankings are atrocious, and in all other national rankings it looks to be in the 60 - 100 range. A decent school for sure, and I believe US News is the most relevant ranking, but it does give some color and context. |
Then you probs did not have the money to afford it or the grades to get in. No worries. Are you a hiring manager or a grad school admissions person? |
Hahha I love that this is framed as a sort of "gotcha" but since you ask -- and I know you probably won't believe me what with the anonymity of the internet and all -- I graduated from an Ivy many moons ago, and yes, am currently a hiring manager at my company. |
| Ivy/hiring manager/never heard of Wake. Seems a tad contrived. |
|
It's fine. It's a tweener. Not north. Not deep south. Not in a big city. Not rural.
Why in the world would you want to work harder and not receive recognition. Ridiculous application with 8 supplements as it is back up school to Top 25 ranked institutions. No thanks. |
| I went to Wake Forest and live in California. Although I tend to agree that no one has ever heard of Wake, it hasn’t held me back in my career. I’ve never applied for jobs in the South, so no experience there. I asked career services for guidance and they just told me there weren’t many alums in my area. However, after a few brand name jobs I don’t think people are looking at your college too much. |
| Would you pick Wake or Davidson? |
NO! US News is known to be a very flawed ranking system, because it relies too much on self-reporting, compared to other rankings that don't use self-reporting at all, or some that use it more sparingly and give more weight to other criteria. The issue is that Americans are used to it, and most don't even know other rankings exist. The best ones are: QS, or Quacquarelli Symonds (British, published since 2004) THE, or Times Higher Education (British, new methodology dating from 2010) ARWU, or Academic Ranking of World Universities (Chinese, published since 2003, earliest of its kind for global rankings) ARTU, or Aggregate Ranking of Top Universities (meta-ranking of the first three rankings) CWUR, or Center for World University Rankings (United Arab Emirates) Here's QS: https://www.topuniversities.com/university-rankings/world-university-rankings/2021 |
| I went there in the early 90s. Greek oriented yes but all students were allowed at the parties. It’s a smaller campus where you get to know everybody. My close Wake friends now live all over the country. They are all successful lawyers, doctors, consultants and tech executives. |
Agree. If true, it just shows once again how incredibly insular and parochial Ivy grads can be. |
| Is there a large Asian-American presence? Do they fit in? |
| How is the alumni network generally, and in the DMV specifically? |
| We were very impressed with Wake when we toured it and speaking with alums. Our kid was waitlisted. Any guidance on how much the waitlist might move (and when) this year? |
+1. NP, would also love any guidance on how to approach being on the waitlist without having toured. Is this a school to say yes to without having visited in person? |
