Top1% go to center for "gifted" , "genius" the rest don't get screwed they get the top level differentiation . In this way all children would have open access to move ahead. If differentiation is screwing kids then FCPS is screwing 75 % of the kids in the county. |
At a school with such low numbers at the top 1% it will be next-to-impossible to differentiate for them. Plus these "lucky" kids get to be with the super-small "cohort" for 4 years of ES. |
Top 1%? Special elementary school classes for the top 1% of students! Someone, anyone show me an elementry school system that has a differentiated education for the top 1% of students in this country or anywhere else in the world. Romania under Chauchescu? The secret underground elementary schools in N. Korea - where the 1% "truely gifted" students get all the free protein that they can eat for lunch perhaps? Way back when AAP was called Gifted and Talented (GT), it was for the top 7% or so. I am sure that FCPS is going to jump right on this plan. This hijacked thread gets more silly as each day goes by... |
that is all that are deserving of a special school. All the rest is absolutly nonsense! An all of you know it. |
|
I'll remember, ignorant anonymous poster on the interwebs. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! |
|
The top wone percent would be 120 kids per grade. TJ is less selective than that. And there could be one school really for the county for those kids. I am not bussing my 3rd grader from great falls to god knows where. The current system, in spite of its flaws seems to work. |
The thing is...i want my kid in aap because I don't want dc to be bullied, again, by the low income, esol kid that the school won't suspend, since the bully gets 2 of 3 meals for free at the school.
Aap has become the way for parents to protect their offspring. Aap is like protective custody in prison. Aap kids aren't forced to mingle or coexist with those in general population. They eat at separate times, take their own aap kid bus on field trips, have their own time at recess. It is what it is! |
This varies by school, apparently. At my child's center school. the whole grade has lunch and recess at the same times and they all take field trips together. PE is mixed and so are band, orchestra, and chorus. |
As it should be. This is the model FCPS wants going forward. |
You should not have to be hoping for AAP to get your DC away from bullies. I believe that there is zero tolerance for bullies in FCPS, although your experience may say otherwise. Have you communicated with the school counselor for your DC's grade and the school principal? It sounds like you've made an effort but just checking. Is the bullying continuing to happen? |
I cannot believe we are having this conversation. Really? If your post was serious (there is a tongue-in-cheek quality to it) I sympathize with your child's situation but, really, why tie the bully's behavior to his/her race and family income? Again, really??? |
Yes, please tell me that your post was not for real. I am amazed at how racist the moms on DCUM are. BTW - my child's first grade class was half low income & ESOL (low income apartments feed into the school). I volunteered to help with reading and found that the children who were ESOL & low income were the best behaved out of the bunch. I am wondering if I should move to Montgomery County to get away from all of you crazy NOVA moms. |
Agreed, but DCUM isn't the only source of racism - it is alive in well in all realms of society and it is appalling. I was surprised that one of my son's friends, who happens to be half-Asian and lives in a rented apartment, said he doesn't like to go to a certain location because of all of the "Spanish people there". Then (in a VERY proud parenting moment), my son, replied with, "Well, it is just like MLK Jr. said - it is not the color of the skin, but the contact of the character that counts." This 8 year old boy didn't come up with this on his own - he learned it from his parents behavior. |
