| $15K, down from about $25K. Current HHI $150K, but the debt is mostly from before we had the jobs we have now. We're chipping away at it slowly. |
| Zero. I've had student loans, but I have never had a credit card balance. I don't understand why one would pay the crazy high cc interest rates instead of spending within your means. |
| None. |
| $500K. I used my credit card to buy $500K house. |
Not this poster, but we decided that we could 'afford' to have kids with credit card debt. Here was our logic- neither of us had student loans, no car payments (at the time) and only had cc debt which we hated but was at near zero rates. It was a small portion of our budget so it wasn't that big of a deal and we tried to pay as much off/sock away as much as we could prior to kids. We decided we could be cc free and have fertility problems which would be equal to cc debt. We also wanted to be 'younger' parents which was something important to us. Do we still have cc debt? Yes, but we have been actively trying to pay it down. |
PP back - meant to say $30K, prior number was mistake (and I recognize that's a lot but working on it) |
| I do not understand the horror around CC debt. A lot of companies offer zero percent financing for things. You are just dumb if you don't take up those offers. Just like zero percent on the car - yes, I could pay it off, but if someone is letting me invest money now to pay them later at zero interest, why wouldn't I take that deal? |
I say this genuinely, please share your financial saviness. |
| About $8,600 |
That's a great strategy if you have the money to pay it off. That's not the credit card debt people are in horror of. Lots of people are paying very high interest rates, fees, etc. of they don't read the fine print on the 0% and miss a payment or charge additional items that makes the interest rate jump up. Not everyone is financially savvy. |

We are down to about 1k, from a high 8 years ago of... IDK exactly... 15-20k? I have blocked that portion of life from my memory.
Basically paid off through two strategies - I took over all the finances, and switched to a much higher paying job. |
I know someone who did this with a credit card to get the promo rate and points. Then they realilzed NONE of the interest was tax deductible and three months later took out a mortgage. |
| I had none but then fell in love with my now DH. Before engagement, i learned about the 35k in cc debt. 5 years later after wedding and baby, we are down to 15k. We will pay it off... |
I guess that I am one of those morons! Actually, I feel similar and it is a constant struggle with DH. We are down to $15k in cc debt, but it is all at zero % and the plan is to pay it off before the promotional rates expire. I hate excuses, but daycare, new house, paid off student loans, etc. yes, we make $300k but ended up with $15k in cc debt. Sh*t happens. |
