I don't spend money on Kumon.
There's the math club thing for nominal fee at school. I send my kids once a week an hour there. They participate in the math contests. I speak Asian foreign language. |
| Hi again, OP here. This thread got really weird and off base. Not bitter or cynical as one PP called out - just wondering with all the talk about prep, if it worked for most who got high scores. Most posters who reported scores on this thread - high scores seemed to report no prep and 70s scores did prep....not a scientific study, but interesting - if its true. Who knows on DCUM. |
Nope. Not, really. I have gotten that "Sorry that your kids did not get into AAP" as a reply at least three time now on different threads in this forum whenever I post anything that (parody or otherwise) that might suggest the possiblity that parents who prep really are not child torturing spawn of the devil. You never did answer my question. Really. I am curious. Why did you assume my kids are not in AAP and then feel the need to apologize for that fact? |
You sound full of anger and judging/assuming about others. |
You say parody; I say stereotyping and disparaging other cultures with that comment. The brighter of the 2 of us is right. |

We're caucasian, US born and my kids go to Kumon. Kumon is not CogAT or NNAT prep. It's drilling math facts, which is something that, sadly, FCPS doesn't do any more. I was told they don't teach math facts because the children "pick it up organically." My geniuses apparently missed out on that. My kids are at Kumon to make sure they get their math facts down. Could I do it at home? Yes, but I work FT and this forces us to do it. It has nothing to do with AAP. One of my kids was in AAP before they started Kumon and the other is not really right for AAP.

| Kumon is kreat for math facts and sunday school is great for religious facts. To each their own despite the envy and jealousy displayed here by many. Posters here can't stand that your kids are doing Kumon. Many think it is cheating and unfair since your kids will blew theirs out of the academic water for years to come. C'est la vie. |
What's your IQ Einstein? |
Who mentions their IQ when talking to another adult who is not the psychologist to administer the IQ test? Oh wait, you do. |
+1 |
