If DC got 95% or higher, did you prep?

Is the sky blue in your world?

Flat out wrong. The AAP program is an advance academic program, not a gifted program. I prepped my son, who is now in the 4th grade and doing great. His scores were right on the edge, only make the pool with one standardized score, which if we had not prepped, I believe he would not have achieved. He is a hard worker. He is not gifted as it is defined by IQ level. Those that prep understand the importance of study and hard work, and they will do well if admitted. He does and is doing fine. Do not confuse AAP success with GT success. This is not a program of theoretical musings, but rather a fast paced curriculum of math, science, and social studies with very little emphasis on grades.

Hope your DD was not a summer birthday, or they are outside looking in for no fault of their own except your bad timing.

Prepped with course and DD only was in 59th percentile. I don't think CogAt is accurate representation of giftedness. My child brilliant. Knows multiplication and division already. Even knows squares and square roots. CogAt don't show this knowledge. I refer and appeal if not get in.

Well done.

My child scored 99%. No prep. I have 3 children and so far none of them preps for anything and they are straight A students and 99 percenters on all standardized tests.

I agree wholeheartedly. My children are like yours. One is in the 3rd and the other in 5th grade and they do not prep so as to provide the world with an accurate indication of their capabilities. My kids have never cheated. Each of them has not opened a book in their life.

From the likes of it, most here don't prep their kids who must all certainly be illiterate by now.

In our community, all of the Asian moms prepped. Which was okay until one of the 2nd grade (non-Asian) children announced it very loudly in the school hallway upon dismissal. Everyone heard it, even the principal, who turned around. At some colleges, the number of "heavily prepped" kids are capped for legal reasons. They can not accept one particular group to the detriment of others. So this will likely become a problem in the not too far future. For which group? It will be interesting.

So, you know this because a) you know ALL the Asian moms personally and they told you or b) you believe second-hand information that came from a second-grader? (who maybe knows all the Asian moms personally? No, he's got a bigoted parent who spouts crap that he's just respouting...) Ugh. You're a real peach.

Non - Asian DCs. No prep. 99 percentile. Have scored same on every similar assessment test since.

Sounds like Asians like to read and the rest like to play lacrosse and watch TV cartoons.

To prove my kid doesn't prep, he has gotten an A on every pop test or quiz in middle school so far. Prepping is not really necessary and distorts the true intellectual and academic picture. it's really akin to cheating as many have stated.
