all the kids in my child's daycare/preschool/kindergarten are named...

Diamynd, Anfernee, Navaeh (heaven spelled backwards), Tra'don, and Quaneeshia.

that is what I meant by creative. Chill.

Actually, my daughter has two playmates with names from your list (Anfernee and Navaeh). Those aren't really all that creative. We don't all live in Bethesda, you know.

yes, those are some of the most common. I didn't think it was appropriate to name the truly unique ones due to confidentiality.

I know now everyone lives in Bethesda. I live a LONG way from Bethesda.

I think it is a bit silly to worry too much that your child will share the same name as another in his/her daycare.

Trends come and go. It is interesting how names like Jack and Isabella are so popular now. I suggest we all name our daughters Bernice, Joyce, Mable, Marsha, Bertha, Nancy, Beth, Nadine...our boys Simon, Carol, Tracy, Ernest etc..

PP I know NOT everyone lives in Bethesda.

Now, if you just picked a name you liked or a family name and you don't care, that's fine. just say it!!! stop hiding behind "i didn't know!"

that being said, i safely named my son after his grandfather who was born in 1911. i only know one other baby with that name and they live 50 miles from us. whew! (i grew up with a very uncommon name, hated not being able to buy nameplates or those trendy leather bracelets. now i love it!!)

I think lots of people look at the naming trends. Often though, you fall in love with a name, and hope a good nickname will get you through.

There are only two children in my daughter's class with the same name. Langston.

I worked for an insurance company. Talk about names that I used to come across. Marijuana Pepsicola Jackson, then there was the dad named Michael, who named his children Mikel, Micheal, Michael, Michelle and Mica. Oh, and I worked with a girl named Lacey, which wasn't so bad, but her last name was Dyke.

I consulted the web sites religiously and I WAS concerned about my child having the same name as everyone else because I personally hated it. If I saw the name climbing the lists, I ruled it out. Now, I didn't go down to the state or town level, but I that didn't matter as much to me since we are planning to relocate at some point and national trends were more important to me.

By the way, I still want to know who posted my maiden name a couple days back - who are you?

Jack/Jacob
Max
Sophie/Sofia
Isabelle/Isabella
Ava
Sam

I see these names a ton but I do love them all... they may be common but they're classic.

You can pick a name you like/family name AND not know the popularity of the name. My DD (8 1/2 years) is named Emma. DS (6 1/2 years) is named Benjamin (Ben). These are both family names. We chose these names b/c they honored family members and because we liked them. We had no idea where each name ranked on any list because we never looked at any list. It simply didn't matter to us.

I personally think "Ava Grace" is the most beautiful, special name ever uttered!

Might be interesting to know where everyone lives. I've never encountered a Madison or a MacKenzie, but we seem to be awash in girls named Sophie/Sophia, Isabella, Ella/Ellie, and Caroline. (We live in NW DC.)

According to SSA, Madison was #5 for girls in 2007, and MacKenzie has been in the top 50 for a while. It hovered in the 40's 5 or 6 years ago.

Most of the popular names among the kids are the sweet sounding throwback names like Emma, Hannah, Grace, Isabel/Isabella, and Lily, names that have made a comeback like Natalie, Ava, and Olivia or the trendy names like McKenzie, Maya, McKenna. With boys - Jack/Jackson, Max, Brandon, Noah, Ethan, Aidan, Braden, Jayden, Dylan and sort of the Irish-American sounding names are in. I wanted something unique but not a "how do you spell that, how do you pronounce that" unique. I have one of those names that is popular in other countries but not in the US and constantly have to repeat it, spell it etc. and forget about any of the cute switchplates etc. with my name on it. Anyway my DH somehow managed to pick a trendy type of name (keeping with the Irish-American trend) but somehow not a popluar one.

Keeping with the irish there are two maeve's and a geinevive at our mygym... sorry breast feeding and using one finger

I read once that Aiden, Jayden, Caden, and Hayden are all actually ranked pretty high. The reason they don't show up in the top spots, is because of all the different spellings.
