I am a "Jennifer". My mom named me in early 1970 and it was not rampant or even 'common' yet. Her other choice was "Susan"--a name I can't stand. I loved being a "Jenny"---then a"Jen' in college and a "Jennifer" at work. I am pretty unique myself and I also loved the anonymity a common name provided....unlike a 'unique' name which everyone would know who ppl were talking about. I would never change my name. I love it. Having a common name--if anything--only had benefits for me. There was such camaraderie amongst the pack of Jennifers at my HS. You have an instant group of friends. I also think, the name itself, is beautiful. I have sons and they have traditional names---one is semi-common. But-personally- I HATE unique names for boys--they seem flighty and unsubstantial. |
