The difference is that African Americans don't identify out of wedlock sex and birth as "who they are". They admit it is wrong and hope to be forgiven through the blood of Christ. They don't tell God and man it is perfectly ok and must be accepted. Therefore they are against gay "marriage". They wpuld probably accept civil unions though. |
Thank you for this post. I agree completely. |
Sheer hypocrisy. People that are unable to follow God's word in their own lives instead decide to concentrate on telling others what they can and can't do. It is the opposite of Christ's teachings. |
It is not hypocrisy to admit sin and the need of Christ's love and redemption. No one is able to completely follow God's word, except for Jesus. That doesn't mean we shouldn't try. |
That is not true. How many Christians do you know who threw themselves at the feet of Jesus and begged forgiveness for having premarital sex? |
I think that it is too easy to scapegoat Black Americans in this. Certainly the gay community would do well to build relationships and not compare our struggles apples to apples with that of the struggles of the civil rights movement. The fact remains however that people ARE murdered because of their real or perceived sexual orientation, kids are killing tthemselves due to harassment, we lack basic protections in housing and Workplace discrimination. So there are some similarities. I think if we could move past a visceral reaction to a place of civil dialogue we could get much further. But it is difficult to do so if people can't get past the idea of sinning. If we are all indeed sinners at least let me be able to protect my family through marriage. I will in return overlook your divorces or out of wedlock kids. |
. Too many words. Just admit that homosexuality is a sin and shouldn't be sanctified by the word marriage. Just go for civil unions. |
Why admit that it is a sin? Did Jesus say simething about it? No but he did condemn divorce. Take that to your pastor, and if you have a priest tell him that calling it annulment doesn't make it any different. |
Not true. Almost every gay person I know my age (45) or older has at least one biological child. I have many friends with gay fathers in particular. They had to live the lie, and have had to do so for most of history. |
. Making a good case that homosexuality is a choice. If it wasn't the gene would be at a severe disadvantage and weeded out in few generations . As a Hetero, I could never finish with a man yuck! |
good luck convincing God and faithful people that homosexualty isn't a sin. I'm sure lucifer would be happy to argue the case though. |
But many things that strict christiaNs think are sin such as children out of wedlock and divorce are NOT illegal. Why treat gAy marriage differently especially since the firmer two are much more harmful to children and families. |
Ok make the case that it is a sin based in the new testament. I bet your only hope is Paul, a former tax collector. |
Here is a sin: Ignoring the First Amendment and demanding that civil law coincide with your religious beliefs. No, excuse me, that's not a sin, "sin" is a religious term that has no place in a discussion of the law.
What is it then? It's an insult to the Constitution! Now please follow Jesus and render unto Caesar... |
. Matthew was the tax collector, Paul was a murderer. The operable word you used is "former". Everybody falls short. People who believe and make a u turn from sin are what Jesus died for. |
