Thank God.

For once, I am extremely proud of my state.

Going way, way back to the begining of this postwhere someone stated marriage is a religious sacrament that has been around for thousands of years - that is not true. Marriage has always been a civil union. The Church avoided involving itself in marriage for a long time and only recognized marriage as a sacrament in the last 500 or so years.

So, really, marriage should be a union recognized by the states (be it between a man and woman, or a homosexual couple) and the Church should find a new term for it if it wants to completely distingiush the two.

If it didn't pass in CA, why would you think it would pass in MD? I think Gay partners should have the same rights as a married couple but I do not think it should be marriage. Marriage is between two people of opposite genders and, apparently, a lot of other people feel this way.

I believe that many years ago the Supreme Court ruled that "Separate but equal" is unconstitutional. This should not even be a issue now.
