I think Andrea Mitchell's plastic surgery is about the best I've seen

I'm all for taking care of yourself, being active and fit, maintaining a healthy weight and eating well and exercising, and if you can afford it, getting facials and keeping your hair looking great with a great cut and color. But the surgery thing - it looks desperate and fake. On celebs I think it is different because they have control over make up and lights - I'm sure Courtney Cox looks odd in person with no make up but on TV she looks damn good.

I'm not naive to think that Nancy and Andrea don't have to worry about looks, but surgery seems to be taking it too far. We wouldn't elect an 18 year old and we wouldn't want to watch a 22 year old interview someone, so why can't they just look "good for their age."

I just watched Shining Vale with my husband and he couldn’t stop freaking out about how bad Courtney Cox looks. “Why did she DO that to herself!?! She was the prettiest of the friends!!!” Her surgery did that stretched out mouth thing that Lauren Sanchez has.

I don't think Nancy is fooling anyone. Andrea does look good.

+1. Nancy's "startled eyes" effect is not what most older women seek when they have plastic surgery.

I got to see Nancy Pelosi in person earlier this year and thought she looked really great actually.

It’s because she’s aged and her face has softened. Many years ago, she got herself cranked tightly and appeared completely crazy from what looked like a lot of aggressive facial plastic surgery. She’s aged since then so her face has relaxed enough to look nice again.

Most people look crazy immediately after plastic surgery. They aren't "turn key." For face lifts, they look too tight and pulled too aggressively at first. For rhinoplasty, the noses initially look small and point upward. Most plastic surgery takes about a year to settle in and often a couple years to reach peak appearance.

I've never had plastic surgery but I find it fascinating and browse forums where people post their surgery photos. It seems that everyone in that business regards surgery a bit like wine-- it needs to sit and age for a bit.

Eventually I will probably get a face lift. Like in my 50s or something, maybe 60s. Just today I was at my dermatologist and asked if I should be considering sculptra. The answer was that it's controversial, but if you have any designs on eventually getting plastic surgery, you probably shouldn't get sculptra because it causes your body to create collagen and its harder for a surgeon to work with. Very interesting, especially when you consider that most people are on the injectable to surgery pipeline and a good number of the women these days will be using sculptra.

Ladies, we will never be free until we stop trying to look 18 when we are 40.

Yup, no true equality if one gender has to try to achieve the impossible while aging is totally accepted for the other. *Gets off soapbox*

What gender are you classifying Jamie Lee Curtis as? Doh!

JLC has a Y chromosome. She’s open about it. It’s why she adopted her kids and is a big adoption advocate. And it’s why she isn’t aging like biological women.

She’s 77 not 64

She was 64 when OP created this thread 13 years ago.

Mitchell has awful skin, but she has definitely done a lot to improve her appearance. Her skin looked much worse when she was younger.
