Current club ghosting us. What do I do next?

Goalie is a specific case and it can be hard to find a team sometimes - but I'm shocked they would need to move him down 3 teams.

I don't see an age group in which Vienna has six teams.

This may sound insulting, but I don't mean it that way at all -- you might want to consider rec soccer.

Kids have a lot of development to do at this age -- physical, mental, soccer skills, etc. Clinging to a sixth team at a club so you can still be in "travel" may not help in that development. I've seen plenty of kids have good experiences in rec soccer, grow into their bodies and minds, then come back and be productive travel players. I've also seen rec All-Star teams wipe the field with lower-level travel teams.

Unless you know the coach with that sixth team and think they'll be great for your kid, is it really worth it?

I agree with this sentiment. Our DD was given an offer on the last travel team in our club last year, but we declined. We knew many of the other players who accepted the offer for that team, and the parents were not so happy with the experience. The players did improve due to the extra practices and tournaments, but the lack of coaching at that level was the main complaint. After spending another year in rec (challenge), and doing futsal in the winter, our DD decided she was ready for travel this year. After tryouts at a handful of clubs, we received a range of offers from the bottom team to the to team at each club. We ended up staying with the large club that she's been with, for the 3rd team. I don't think that if she chose to do travel on the last team last year, she would have jumped any higher than the 3rd team. The players we knew who joined travel at the bottom teams either moved up one or two teams, but none of them improved past the 3rd team.

I wouldn't say playing Rec (Challenge) really prepared her for travel. The biggest improvements came from getting lots of touches at home (10 minute ball mastery Youtube videos and passing the ball against the wall over and over), Futsal (small sided games with lots of touches), travel tryouts (small-sided games with strangers), and All-Stars (longer practice, and gives a small taste of travel competition). We'll see how her first year in travel goes, but would likely consider going back to rec if we were faced with the decision of moving back down to the bottom team from the 3rd team, and unable to place higher than the last team at other clubs. That would just make me feel that environment was not productive for her development.

OP here with an update.

We have done 2 days of GK try outs with a new club last week. They definitely want him and are having him practice with the current teams this week so they can decide which team to place him on for next year. We should have a formal offer tomorrow.

Declined the 6th team offer from our current club last Friday. Then today we got a 5th team offer from our current club!!! But no other information - just the generic offer email. No communication from the coach or club. We will decline this one too, but I'll wait to decline until we accept the offer from the new club

That would raise some red flags about the current club. Seems like they are willing to bend the rules and prioritize customer retention / profits.

Thanks for the update. When placing GK positions, try to get a sense of how many play the position. Are you the #1 goalie, or the #3? Very different experience. Plus if there are 2 on a team, you may only play half a game at best. Best to be in a club where they have fewer goalies and you get more playtime.

I recall a post from a woman with a very similar story, except it was her daughter.

DMV club lurkers, why do you do this? Such a shitty and cowardly thing to do.

Has anyone in this position tried tagging or contacting the club on social media?

> My nephew at that age was completely ghosted. My SIL patiently waited and no offer came. The season ended and she reached out to the coach and TD multiple times. She never ever got a response at all. By the end of June, she explained to her son there was no offer but it was so hurtful. A no would have been fine but to not respond to a returning player is inexcusable.

Wow, that's terrible.
I wish people would name and shame these clubs.

Arlington has 5-6 teams per age.

I can’t believe a club responded to a rejected 6th team offer with a 5th team offer and no explanation. Wtf is this, a home buying negotiation?

I am dying to know who the drunk coach is. I also agree with PP, this would be a pretty funny story to post on social media and tag the club (and/or that coach). Probably not a good idea to do that, but still funny to think about.
