DMV now leading the country in job losses, by a mile

Anonymous
At my agency, the DOGE bros fired 10%, and then another 10% of us resigned or retired and went to work in private industry.

Now the idiots are saying they need to hire that 10% back. Sure. With what HR staff? Those of us who went to private industry don't want to come back. And a lot of the other feds who were RIFed don't have the right expertise.

DOGE screwed up thousands of lives, depleted people's bank accounts and retirement, ensured that federal employment is going to be a last resort for new graduates, and has create huge gaping holes in the country's health research.

And they didn't even create a sfh real estate sell off like they wanted, because most of us feds couldn't afford to buy that much anyhow.

No it isn't. It's great for over $2m but the 1 - 1.5m market is terrible because whose are folks who are most concerned for their jobs.

Do you have to hire the 10% back all at once?

The federal government will take decades to get back to the level of expertise it threw away. If it ever becomes that attractive to new employees again. They eliminated the Presidential Management Fellow program. They fired or forced to resign many of their 40-55 year old workers. That level of expertise isn't easliy re-hired. They found new jobs. They likely also moved. You can re-hire some people, but the most desirable workers have moved on and aren't chomping at the bit to return to the federal government.

I guess we will just wring our hands for the next twenty years. No reason to even try hiring anyone.

How exactly is a mayor going to improve this? Be realistic

Is this a real question? How about by not being incredibly hostile to businesses? That would be a good place to start.

Mayors have such limited ability to deal with the macro issues that are impacting jobs. Being "less hostile" to business is going to have negligible impacts, if any.

Are you dumb or just insane?

Really don't think you know who the world works.

DC leads the country in job losses. If this was happening in any other city, it would be a five alarm fire.

It is a five alarm fire. But we have no control whatsoever (less than any state) over the politicians continually setting that fire.

Do politicians create jobs?

DOGE killed thousands of jobs. Keep up.

So, that's the only way to create jobs? We need the government to create an agency to employ people?'

When psychopaths come in and cancel needed jobs and those people leave the DMV and move to Europe to continue amazing research in curing diseases… yes we need NIH, to create jobs. We need grants. We needs federal funds. To cure diseases. Yes.

Also many DOGE’d people are doing their exact job as a contractor but not living in the DMV anymore doing it remotely.

There are other ways to create jobs that don't rely on government to create those jobs. Government jobs don't grow your economy because those workers are paid with the salaries of private workers. Grants and funds are not bottomless pits of money without consequences.

I swear the people on this board.

Diseases are not cured by “private workers”, new technology is not funded by good hearted billionaires. All these things require govt funding.

I swear people on this board.

May your child get a disease that would have been cured by DOGEd scientist…. But now won’t be.

Ah yes, I remember Bezos being funded by the government to start his online bookstore. He wouldn't spend a dime of his billions on his own idea! Remember, NASA invented the microchip, amiright?

Anthony Williams' signature issue was economic development, and he did more than anyone else in DC history to transform the city from a blighted, depressing place that people were afraid to visit to the DC we have come to know today. So, yes, politicians can make a massive, massive difference with the incentives they create -- if they actually try. Janeese Lewis George would rather do nothing and blame Trump for everything.

Or you could vote for the mayoral candidate who has the best plan to try to fix this mess.

Again, why on earth would you expect the municipal government to solve an issue the federal government created and is the only party that can solve? You're blaming the wrong entity.

Are you insane? DC has the worst unemployment problem in the entire country. Creating jobs should be the first, second and third priority of the mayor and city council. And voters should reject any candidate who pretends this isn't their job or that they're somehow powerless. What are we paying they clowns to do? If people can't afford to feed their kids and pay their rent, nothing else matters.

The Mayor's can't do anything about the Pedophile in the White House.

Right?

Asking for mayors to be accountable for the deeds of the PedOTUs and Musk is like $h@tting your pants and changing your shirt.

I think we're just asking mayors to actually do their jobs. The learned helplessness on this thread is something.

It's wild to me how out of touch the mayoral candidates are. People have out of work for a year. They're applied to hundreds of jobs, they're running through their savings, their unemployment is ending, they don't how they're going to retire or send their kids to college and Janeese Lewis George is like let's focus on traffic safety! The job market is in free fall and they just ignore it.

A lot of people will leave DC because it all seems hopeless. There is no one even trying to fix it.
