Trust the data from the fools who built a school without having the students to justify it? Yea MCPS are data savants. |
+1 Why did they claim Wheaton HS has 2700 seats when the CIP says it has 2200 seats and is overcrowded? If there are 500 seats just sitting there at Edison, why haven't they started using them yet? Why do they claim Ashburton ES is not overcapacity when everyone knows that it is? MCPS data is total BS and anyone who trusts it has not been paying attention or doesn't want to. |
| These closed elementary schools feel like such a waste. I walk by Rollingwood Elementary sometimes. The building looks pretty rough now. There was a French school using it for years and it used to be a voting location. Now it’s just an empty building sitting there… I don’t know what it should be, but there has to be something more for that site. |
I remember when Rachel Carson was so overcrowded that there was going to be a boundary study in 2019 to split the school and send some kids to DuFief; DuFief would have an addition built to accommodate the extra kids. Just amazing how much things have changed in 7 years. Rachel Carson's enrollment is 30% smaller. |
Bad news bears: Dufief is staying. They’ll absorb Wash Woods and possibly some others from FRES if the “Rosemont Island” is too large to keep FRES within capacity range. Truthfully, moving Dufief to Cabin John (and keeping SMES there) would make the most sense to give MCPS more room to redistribute Rosemont Island and FRES without messing with MS patterns but no one wants to hear from Dufief anymore. |
| Dufief always wants to act like they are magnanimous but their initial reaction was to stay with the Asians and whites at all costs. Then when cornered, they championed going to Crown which would be more diverse, but it was just so they could stay in the cluster and as long as their “friends” at the other Asian and white schools were forced to go as well. And the push to join Stone Mill (very predominantly Asian) is also part of this. Dufief, you think we can’t see you but we SEE you. Your actions are so transparent. |
| ^^ Their whole schtick is “we’re happy to be guinea pigs” just send the other white and Asian schools with us. |

Truly curious. Why the Dufief hate? We are at another Wootton feeder school and I don’t see why they’re being singled out. The parents there are more down to earth than at the other schools (including ours).
I’m a proponent of Wootton staying on Wootton pkway. I’m an alum and so are my kids. It’s been part of the community for over 50 years. But I’m resigned to the fact the plan will be approved as Taylor proposed and all the drama isn’t going to change the BOE’s mind. All that’s happening now is we are dividing the community and pitting communities against one another. |
Agreed. Maybe MCPS will start growing again and they will need Wootton to reopen in its original location. Time will tell. |
That would be decades later and irrelevant for the people who currently are fighting for their kids |
+1 also not likely as there isn't a lot of space to build more housing and people are not going to start having more babies any time soon. |
Which is the funniest thing because this either doesn’t happen as some of the other posters alluded to OR it does happen and Wootton reopens without Dufief. Either way, 👋 Dufief. Dufief hate explanation: they are hypocritical. If they truly think the Wootton building is unsafe, they should’ve been happen with option D during the initial round. But no, they was pissed as hell and wanted the entire cluster to get behind them so that they can still at Wootton. But when H came out, all of a sudden, its we absolutely need to leave Wootton. Let’s just be transparent. It was never about safety, but forcing everyone else in the cluster to move with you when literally more than 90% of the entire cluster is against it. If end up at Crown, I hope Dufief is closed. In fact, I can promise, there will be people pushing for this. You want Wootton closed? Great, do Dufief next. Karma! |
Dufief mom here: Two things can be true. We wanted BOTH to 1) get out of the moldy building for physical health reasons AND 2) stay with our friends for social/mental health reasons. Just like the Parkway People want BOTH to 1) stay on the Parkway 2) have it spruced up--even minimally--as they have (rightfully) been asking for for the last 15 years. I think the difference between Dufief and the Parkway People is that we have realized we actually can't have it all and worked to figure out what is most likely and throw our support at that recognizing the limits of our power. |
They aren't hypocrites, they are realists. There is no money. A renovation of Wootton just isn't going to happen. Dufief understands this and the Wootton walkers can't accept it. Dufief wanted to stay with Wootton. Option H happened. Stay with Wootton AND get a safe school? Awesome! It's also not just Dufief. 100's of community members from Stone Mill and Travilah also signed onto a letter saying they support H. Sorry this is so difficult for you to understand! |
Actually no, they can’t be. Safety trumps all. Nothing comes above my children’s safety. If you genuinely think the building is unsafe, you would’ve been all too happy with option D instead crying about having to go alone. The fact that Dufief is not ok with D but ok with H proves that it was never about safety. |
