Trump has limited ability to focus as well as follow through on commitments. Many folks in his first term tried that and the deal may have lasted a day. Remains to be seen what will happen with NYC (from where I am typing this on the UWS). Mamdani may have more success because he doesn't have a criminal indictment and Trump still wants to be liked by NYers regardless of whatever crap he talks about the city. You have to remember, Trump always carries around the outerborough chip on his shoulder. I know so many folks who grew up bridge and tunnel and none of them have the issues that Trump has with their origin story. |
So did Gov Whitmer. It's making her very popular. I thought people didn't like TDS, which is is!?!? |
I’ve heard several pundits discuss this. Whitmer’s incident at the White House was very early and she handled it badly, but she was essentially doing the same thing as Mamdani is - trying to get federal money for state projects. Does he get a pass because he’s a man, or young? Did Trump give her a harder time because he wanted to squash her presidential chances, while Mamdani doesn’t have any? Is it just that he did it more confidently than she did? Ir because he’s less popular now so it’s seen as more trolling than begging? It’s an interesting thought exercise. Whitmer is very popular in Michigan but I don’t think she’s going to be near the top if she runs in 2028 and that’s part of why IMO. Democratic voters want people who are fighting/standing up to Trump. |
