I’ve heard several pundits discuss this. Whitmer’s incident at the White House was very early and she handled it badly, but she was essentially doing the same thing as Mamdani is - trying to get federal money for state projects. Does he get a pass because he’s a man, or young? Did Trump give her a harder time because he wanted to squash her presidential chances, while Mamdani doesn’t have any? Is it just that he did it more confidently than she did? Ir because he’s less popular now so it’s seen as more trolling than begging? It’s an interesting thought exercise. Whitmer is very popular in Michigan but I don’t think she’s going to be near the top if she runs in 2028 and that’s part of why IMO. Democratic voters want people who are fighting/standing up to Trump.[/quote]
