Yes, OP!
And I was happy to see an entrepreneurial spirit. They saw an opportunity to make a few bucks and went for it. I happily paid some teen boys $50 to get my car freed, and they did a great job. |
That is great! |
THIS. I am a mom of sons as well, and this!! |
This was a really positive and uplifting thread that had nothing to do with girls until the man hating trolls showed up and started to attack. If you read the first page, you will see this. Any posts about girl came in response to people attacking the idea of complimenting boys and acknowledging their hard work for their communities, and a direct question asking if OP saw any girls shoveling (no, I did not) What a crazy world we live in that people like several of the women on this thread (not you) get so offended at a positive kind thread recognizing and thanking young men. It makes me wonder how those women became so toxic and sexist that they have to attack over seeing something positive written about the boys in our community. |
| This entire thread is pushing a dangerous gender binary that is harmful and unacceptable. It also promotes sexism. It is possible to praise boys without doing this. |
Nope. Just reread the first page and this is not what happened. I really think OP is a troll who wanted to start something. A few people said "I saw girls too" and people went nuts. What a crazy world we live in that people like you see persecution where there is none and deny the real sexism in this world. Demented. Man-hating trolls? FFS. |
Exactly. What would have been wrong with just saying, shout out to the teens who helped out in the storm? |
So how do we compliment boys without mentioning that boys did an exceptional job, pray tell? |
What not start your own thread then? |
I agree with this. I'm all for praising people (boys, girls) for good work. And yes lots of boys out busting their butts to shovel. But let's be honest in 99 percent of the cases they are doing it for money only. Every teen boy I know was out hustling for the money. Nothing wrong with this. Yes they do a better job than girls and can move more snow. But this wasn't the work of saints, this wasn't real community work in most cases, it was getting paid for a chore! Be honest about what's going on here. Boys are great (I have two of them!) but it's just silly to pat them on the back for working. It's patronizing really! |
Many of the boys did it for free. At least the ones in our neighborhood. And clearly you did not do any shoveling, because if you did you would never say it was :just a chore" |
“entrepreneurial spirit” ?!? More like Western capitalist cisheteropatriarchy. |
DP and I lived in Upstate NY for many years and did a ton of shoveling. It's just a chore. It is merely a chore we don't have to do very often around here. |
People constantly praise girls and everything is about them now. The point was to say something nice. My son helped dig out us and three neighbors all for free. |
This. |
